Here is the short list of destinations we have been trying to get service to for the last 3 years from Continental out of Houston......

Pakistan
India
United Arab Emirates
Saudi Arabia
Kuwait
Dubai
Russia
Taiwan
China

So far Continental has been non responsive 🙁🙁🙁🙁🙁 The city of Houston was approached as well. We (Business Community) asked them to speak with Continental about it which they have. CO hasnt been able to do anything so far....
The city of Houston has approached foreign carriers as well to provide the service to the city...i dont like it but it has happened.

Pakistan service is now being provided by Pakistan Intl Airways.
Taiwan service is now being provided by China Airlines.

Air India-Emirates and Aeroflot have expressed interest in providing service to IAH 🙁🙁

I hope CO is watching, for i for one would like to give our business to the hometown airline, and to US carriers in general 🙂

Forgot to add Frankfurt, Germany which is currently served by Lufthansa. They now fly the A 340 on the route and said they can easily upgrade it to the 747-400 and A380 in the future if more capacity is needed.

I think we need the planes first to be able to do those routes. Kinda short on those right now.

Air India will be providing service from IAH to Mumbai using the Boeing 747-400.

Hello Continental, are you listening...........

The short list has gotten a little longer.....

Uzbeckistan
Angola
Nigeria
Singapore

These 4 were on the "long list" but have been put on the rush list, short list to start service.........

Many things are happening and we are trying to be good members of the community and stay with the hometown airline. Unfortunately the hometown airline isnt able to keep up with us, but we will keep on it!

Continental had proposed service to Nigeria, but it fell through when the gov'ts couldn't agree. Boy would that have been a senior trip.

Dude, the only way ANY US carrier will serve half of those places (for now) is by RPV.

TAAG Air Angola has applied to serve IAH from Luanda upong delivery of thier new 777's end of summer this year 🙁

Perhaps you are correct in stating domestic carriers will not serve a lot of these destinations, which is sad. I can say for fact, the business is here and its growing....

CO just can't walk out and pick up some B777s in the parking lot and start flying them tomorrow and get gov't approval as well. Give CO a break. Does AA offer all those countries service out of DFW? No, then it must not be profitable. Just ask PanAm what happens when you concentrate of International only and start forgetting about the domestic markets. just my thoughts......

woah woah woah now, i cant see why CO would want to serve these cities....there has to be a large enough market....
Uzbeckistan? come on now, lets be realistic here....
the closest addition i can see them make to your list would be an IAH-Hong Kong or IAH-Bejing, but even that i doubt...CO is trying to expand their international routes from EWR right now because thats where the market is at...

The market is here i assure you. Keep your eyes open for the foreign carriers that will continue to come in and fly the routes where you say there is no market. This is Houston, command and control. Look at a world geo. map and it wont be hard to understand the desire for service to the above mentioned destinations as well as others. As far as giving CO a break, i think thats what we have been doing by giving them more and more business. After the horrible 9/11 events, city leaders came to the major industries here and asked if we would increase usage on commercial carriers, Continental in particular...we agreed. WE stopped the mass use of chartered flights where ever possible to use commercial flights instead to help the airlines, again CO in particular. From CO we got wonderful service, clean planes, and friendly employees. In fact it was and has been so good, that we demand more of it in the form of increased service to more key international business destinations. I personally have flown mostly commercial and not charter and i enjoy flying CO. I am one of the largest supporters for the airline and have 99% good things to say about it. As far as NYC, i wish them most success in thier continued growth there, but NYC is not in our radar and flying us through a delay plagued area isnt what we desire. There has been some activity, so they, CO , are listening...will keep you posted 🙂

But watcher you can not only think of connecting in NYC. I know your operations are in Houston but you have to remember NYC is like the capitol of the world. There are just to many things going on up there. And well unfortunately traffic is one of them and lot just on the NJ turnpike or Lincoln Tunnel but airports and airways as well. I spent a month in Houston and I did not bump into one person from Nigeria, Angola, or Uzbeckistan, but in NY I have. Just a thought.
