This may be why LCC chose A350 over 787...

Hell, could you blame Doogie for sticking with Airbus? I knew LCC was gonna get a sweet deal from Airbus, but hot damn, 50% off??? I don't have a problem giving credit where credits due, and in this case, LCC made a wise decision to hold out for the better deal. Congrats.

That's not the only reason.. apparently Airbus put a lot of money on the line to get the America West/ US Airways merger to happen. You think we'd stab them in the back and go with Boeing?

I also noticed that the article said Finnair, which like US ordered the original version, is only getting them at the original price. That's not quite the deal that Airbus is apparently offering to new customers.

That was all paid back a long time ago. Plus, do you think these greedy bastards would worry for one second about switching teams if it meant they'd get a better deal?

Actually, that's the only thing we can trust about DP and friends. They can make great deals with vendors. Hopefully its Jet Blue good and Airbus can deliver.

How much more cost effective is the 787 supposed to be over the 350?
Nobody really knows, Bob. While the 787 could be considered a "paper airplane" because it hasn't flown yet, Boeing has pretty complete tech specs and wind tunnel testing behind it's figures. The A350 could be called a "paper napkin airplane" because so far there's only a concept and Airbus' claim that it'll be more efficient than the 787.

While a 50% discount on hardware sounds great but as someone who has made his living when he sold on the Totatl Cost or Ownership (TCO) value proposition I have some questions for my esteemed aviation colleagues.

How much more cost effective is the 787 supposed to be over the 350?

If the price of oil continues to rise to 65, 75,85, 100 dollars per barrel what happenes to the TCO on the 350 as it is rumored to be less fuel efficient?

Do you really think no one has thought of this  :stupid:  .
It will all be in writing, what AB says it will do, and what AB will do if it doesn't (i.e.$$$).

Sandcastle has a tendency not to think about what problems can occur when they make changes. Web Site, the Cutover to Shares. They have a Track record of failures, so why give them the benefit of the doubt about anything?

US Airways is expected to buy between 20 and 30 A350s this year after Airbus “forgaveâ€￾ a loan of $90 million. Is this the same money were talking about, or something different?

Who's to say we won't get both? There are no rules here in the airline biz... certainly when it comes to honoring a contract. B)

This whole thing is crazy, now look at what ATW is reporting.

The mystery surrounding the identity of the purchaser of the 30 787s placed on Boeing's website last week has deepened.

The Seattle Post-Intelligencer reported this week that a Boeing source indicated the order was from a non-US customer. However, other sources at Boeing told ATWOnline that may not be the case (ATWOnline, April 16).

This website also has learned that the 30 aircraft are the smaller 787-8s and that US Airways, assumed to be an eventual A350 customer, still may be in the market for the 787.

Hopefully all of this will be cleared up when the 1st quarter results are announced next week!

Given the 'Discounts" that Airbus has offered to US before, I had no big doubts that they would strike a deal for the A-350 over the 787. I know that the "Bad Blood" between Boeing and US goes back to the "Old" US East Management, but it set a trend in the favor of Airbus.

How about simplified fare structure, paying off ATSB loans, most ambitious merger in airline history while making a profit all along, profit sharing, E190 rollout, saving US from extinction at the risk of harming HP (do I need to go on?)

Sorry to bust the USAviation.com bubble, but the news ain't all bad.

The reason for the A350?
Shares
Highest paid execs.
LOWEST paid employees
reduced seat pitch
removal of closets
employees are the enemy
frequent flyers treated like crap
PHL
the IT department
Outsourcing of half the fleet to Mesa and the like
Cactus call sign for a flag carrier
small airline mgmt. trying to play with the big boys (exception is pay)
and finally

No other airline wants the POS!

Pay Cuts from East, E-190 was ordered way before the merger, paying the ATSB off via other loans! Do some homework first. Risk of harming HP? lol They do that themselves (Sandcastle). Who was almost blacklisted by the FAA?
