The quote below is from DL EVP Human Resources & Labor 27Mar07 to a group of investors. This was partly in response to questions regarding why DL is giving its employees raises. Any one in Tempe listening?

"great places to work are more profitable, there more productive, you attract better people, you retain better people, and so you ought to make and economic investment in being a great place to work.â€￾

"you can't be at war with your unions and be successful in a customer service business"

In DCA we are 60-70 short on the ramp ,40 short in cust svc. 15-20 short of supervisors in cust svc . We can't get any quality people to work for what we offer in pay. No one wants supervisor positioons, for .57 cents more an hour it is definitely not worth it. More CSS's want to step down than there are people wanting the positions. If the compnay really wants to attract good people they have to pay for them which means raising the pay scale back to pre bk levels.

Singh, is that quote from DoUgIe in your signature available in a link? I'd like to see the context in which it was being used.

It's a fascinating quote from one of the great thinkers from aviation history. 😛

It's not a joke!!! The pay incentive of .57/hr won't buy a cup of Starbucks coffee!!
Thats why most of the senior agents don't want the css positions. All the extra paperwork, headaches, overtime without extra pay, etc. We just want to do our job, do it well, then walk out th door.

It won't even buy a cup of coffee at McDonald's, and they reduced the price to 69 cents a cup.

But aren't you all excited about getting a new uniform soon. You'll be broke but broke and sexy. I need to find a foodbank.
