Look for sale. Less headache.

Considering that you will be flying ‘sub-standby’ on full planes, the amount of perceived ‘savings’ can be more than chewed up in hotels (unless you like sleeping at airports), time and food. Full flights, cancelled flights and bad weather can really make it an ‘experience’. Each ‘additional’ leg that you take is also an added expense paid for by the employee, whither you pay or not.

JMHO, if the ‘buddy’ is too ignorant to explain and validate the ‘costs’ that may be incurred, then tough nuts to you both.

I would never hand out specific information on a public forum, regardless. 😛h34r:

If you mean posting the fares on this forum I really don't care. If UA cares then too bad.
The Companion fares are a joke.

UT, If you ment something else sorry.

The fares should be no big deal but I understand some sensitive information SHOULD NEVER BE POSTED PUBLICLY, UT you can even PM me if you wanted to but...I'd be better off flying revenue for sure.

The thing I am concerned with most is ‘perception’. As this is an open forum, people will misinterpret that a buddy pass is for a first class positive space round trip ticket for around a grand. Of course, we in the industry know that it is far from the truth but do not be surprised if what ‘we’ post is skewed into something that it is not and ‘part’ of the post will be published and the public will be outraged.

This may be one factor in why the ‘buddy pass’ is not a great deal, there are people trying to exchange buddy passes with other carriers and some people try to sell them.

IMHO, this was not the intention for employees to enter into a barter system and/or profit from the benefit.

Get the point. Understand your view on this.

Understood, I am an ex-airline employee here. You're right the public will find any way to skew this or get an employee in trouble anywhere anyhow.

Buddy passes have not been worth the paper they are written on since ESOP and before bankruptcy. The newbie employee should have check the United intranet under pass travel to find out what the charges would be for you. You would also be flying standby. You can check online and probably find good prices and get a confirmed seat. No longer makes any sense to use buddy passes. I no longer recommend them to my friends. I want to keep my friends, thankyou.
