To be SURE, I'm VERY sure they already Thought of all of that.
They probably already Know how many are coming from Houston's SOCC, (Or UAL SOUTH as they've taken to calling it) But! Whether all ofthe people they WANT to come WILLl come I have No IDEA. I work in United's SAMC and My counterparts in Houston's Tech OPS seem to be treated like "Mushrooms". Rumor has it they're not being told much of anything. And THAT is pretty LAME indeed! Why we haven't had joint meeting and gotten to know how they handle business and see how WE handle Business so we can take the "best practices" of BOTH groups is a mystery to me. We operate in two Entirely different realms of thought. United's is to place a LOT of responsibility on a FEW. CAL's is to spread the responsibility over Many. All I can say is? Wait till they get a Load of US.. They might leave the Willis Tower's 27th floor without benefit of the elevator, or even opening the window. It's not really that Hard to get where we are but if you don't know any better you accept what you see. We live in the "pressure cooker" all day every day so it seems normal to us at United. We rotate shifts every 9 days, rotate Days off every 6. Hell! We don't KNOW any better! Either you Love the job or you Hate it! There's No middle ground That's for sure! We had to move from San Francisco and lost nearly 80% of our Group (Controller's and Planners) (luckily, we got some pretty good Troops From ORDMM)s but we had to rebuild pretty much from "Scratch" too. And? When the CAL Sr. Maintenence Controllers arrive? We'll be rebuilding Yet Again. Hopefully there will be a few to come as we DON'T EVEN have the manpower to cover their 737 fleet. Everything else we can muddle through for awhile but the 223 737's ?? Ain't no way in Hell! That fleet alone is 10 controllers (that we don't Have and aren't likely to GET in the near future if the CAL guys decide not to show up.) There are a few of us who were 737 qualified already but we're all working other fleets now ,747-777,757-767,A320-A319 etc. I'm not sure they'd all want to return TO the 737's I wouldn't care because it ISN'T any Harder than working the Airbus fleet just more of them. Every other airplane in the combined fleet is a piece of cake. IMHO
