Is it just me or does it appear that Tilton and Brace take every opportunity to make sure everybody knows that they actively support industry consolidation. It's almost embarassing. It's as if they have a cardboard sign around their neck at the offramp from the highway that says "Buy me PLEASE.......someone....anyone.....BUY ME".

They should spend more time actively looking to use some out of the box thinking to run United instead of pimping the airline to anyone and everyone.

Can someone just tell these two clowns, "ok, you support consolidation...we get it.....now SHUT UP ALREADY!"

Britain wants the authority by 2010 to buy a controlling stake in USA-based airlines.

Don't you feel kinda sad for Tilton/Brace?

All lubed-up and assuming the position and yetnot a single passerby will even give them a whirl??

The only people enjoying the favors of Tilton/Brace these days are the bankers/lawyers/consultants ---- and you would think they must even be getting tired of looking at the same arse every day!

I just find their schtick tiring to the point of it being sad. How about focusing your time and energy on actually running United and maybe changing the horrific culture that still permeates from top to bottom? It's a complete joke how not a week goes by where Tilton or one of his minions isn't quoted as favoring consolidation. Do they honestly think that we've forgotten how much they support it? These guys are nothing but bags of wind who have long outlived their usefulness. Get a CEO and officer corps who would rather focus on running the company. The employees deserve at least that. Even if you're in favor of consolidation, you don't have to forcibly be quoted on the subject ad nauseum. Enough already!!!!

The Wind Bags still have some unfinished business to attend to:

CHICAGO, March 21 (Reuters) - UAL Corp. (UAUA.O: Quote, Profile, Research), parent of No. 2 U.S. carrier United Airlines, sees ways to cut costs by hundreds of millions of dollars beyond the savings targets it has already announced, the company's chief financial officer said on Wednesday.

The company, which has pledged to trim costs by $400 million annually, intends to increase that goal in the 2008-2010 period, Jake Brace said at the JP Morgan Aviation & Transportation Conference.

I wonder where THAT is going to come from, given the convienient scheduling of Contract Negotiations? I'm betting on where they always go...the plebs...

UA has already paid off a third of its bankruptcy exit financing and refinanced the remainder. Its finances are improving. I wouldn't be surprised if UA announces an intention to combine with CO, DL or US in the near future.

Yes, it is a joke! mean while CO and Delta are flying
Mumbai and Delhi and getting new aircraft. I don't care about the India flights just why aren't we adding our number together instead of our CEO and CFO, making statments camping out to get a merge. Our CEO is even giving away London like they did South America and JFK and Miami to name a few. What's next with our company?

In May we will only have one route to South Florida Fort lauderdale by TED and Miami and will go RJ United Express and West Palm no longer any flights. This is a crazy airline we have.

Virgin America is coming and now we have to to worry about in SFO.

Tilton/Brace want the company sold so they can collect their mind-boggling-tens-of-millions stock options and retire.

Cute, eh?

FWAAA -- you're funny!

You are exactly right. Don't be fooled by their empty rhetoric. The only thing Tilton and Brace are concerned with is pimping UA to the first available suitor and locking themselves into a Wolf & Gangwal-esque payday and riding off to count their windfall. Tilton has no interest in running UA for the long haul. He says the right things to keep everyone as happy as possible. But he can't sell or consolidate UA quickly enough. What UA TRULY needs (and has needed for oh........about the last 10 years or so) is a CEO who will come in and REALLY clean house. And I don't mean tossing out a few low level flacky's. I'm talking about a true mid and upper management level overhaul. Ya know, kinda like what Bethune and his tops guys did at Contintental. They identified a new culture and new way of doing things. They put the word out to everyone so they knew what to expect. And those that refused to adjust to this new way of doing things were expeditiously shown the door. And it literally saved that company.

But the problem is that very few CEO's have the true leadership ability to pull it off. It isn't easy. You have to identify the problems with your existing culture and way of doing business. But you also have to identify the bad seeds who are nothing but an obstacle to any meaningful success. And Lord knows UA has plenty of those in their management structure. Sadly, a much-needed purge never took place. Sure, Tilton changed almost the entire officer corps. But the problem does not lie soley with VP's. There are many supervisors, managers, general managers, managing directors and directors who need to go.

Why do you think that deep down, it's still the same old way of doing things at United? Essentially, they did nothing but put lipstick on a pig.

Maybe the Corporate Culture evolved into one that supports deception, self interests, self absorption, and narcissism. I really don't believe that the customer or the employee for that matter are really all that important to Management anymore. It's the numbers baby! If my numbers look great, it really doesn't matter what else happens. We hit the goals, we get paid (some substantially more than others). That's the current culture-- to benefit the few on the backs of the masses--but that's the way of this country in general. Why should UA be any different? I'm all for a purge, UA desperately needs it, the Industry needs it, but I doubt if anyone in the position to do so would shoot himself/herself in the foot to change anything.
