These emergency response teams are a bit of a mass produced secret, I think. I doubt many of the traveling public realize they exist?

There is a TON of preparedness that goes on within each carrier's team, and also a lot of protocol as far as who-helps-who-where. As noted in the article, a lot of it is along alliance lines.

I was on the team for NW for awhile. I'm glad I did it, and am even more glad I never had to use any of my training...
 
thats good to hear both of you.. kev were you part of the team when nwa dc9 slammed into the airbus near the terminal a few yrs back and what was the final outcome of that accident
 
I wasn't involved in that one... The end run mechanical failure. The DC9 had a hydraulic(s) issue, and when the pilots shut down the left engine, the A/C lost braking power & steering, and wound up under the wing of an Airbus that was pushing back from the gate.
