Ual May Report

I love it. Taque says it's progress when last May we made 9 million operating and this year we lose 21 million. That's 30 million $$ progress! Only an executive could say that!

If UAL can't earn an operating profit for the month of May, is there any real hope of earning operating profits in the cold winter months?

With each passing month, it becomes increasingly apparent that the execs have no real plan.

The time for domestic capacity reduction is long overdue.

They loose $93 Million because they had to pay;

- Fees running an average of $8.6 million per month
- United’s bankruptcy bill is on pace to top $300 million
- United’s lead bankruptcy lawyer=$795 hourly billing rate
- United pays for advisers to advise advisers (?) = $26.6 million

- Fees associated with the Bankruptcy Court;
* 7,801 billable hours during the month. Cost=$2.7 million in fees
* $157,732 in expenses
* A $1,146 lunch for a March creditors committee meeting
* United’s investment bank, is due to receive a $15-million “completion feeâ€￾ in cash once United reorganizes or merges
* Executive search firm to analyze United’s board of directors. Cost=$124,397

Just paying for bankruptcy is killing them (estimated $300 Million) + fuel = $93 Million.

Cost of United's Bankruptcy

No, with each passing month it becomes more apparent that you have no clue. The cash balance went up SUBSTANTIALLY. UAL is playing the accounting game. In any case, if there is to be a capacity reduction, I vote to get rid of the inventor of the B-scale and the most despised airline in the business. Let's get rid of the Evil empire, the sky nazis, AMR :up:

UAL management has a plan. Take more money and benefits from its employees and put more bonuses in their pockets.

AMR can't even get their own house in order much less plot to do another[UAL] airline in.
I wish AA management was as sharp as you are giving them credit for.

Ummmmm,

Perhaps you missed the announcement earlier this year where UAL said they were reducing domestic capacity ~ 12-13%?

DC

Capacity Reductions are no longer the answer, because the capacity gap is immediately filled by competitors. If you look at AirTran's and JetBlue's May numbers, you'll find that their ASMs went up 34.4 and 25.6% year over year. At the same time, their RPMs went up even higher, 38.8% and 32.9% respectively, which shows that there is indeed demand for the added capacity.
I think it's high time that United thinks of more effective ways to increase its market presence.
Flying more brings unit cost down, capacity reductions usually move them up.
