Union people in the Entertainment industry can teach Airline folks a thing or two when it comes to standing by and supporting your brother and sisters.

We, the rank and file, have helped create the monster that we are all dealing with now. It was the modus operandi of airline management to ensure the division of Unions (on each companies property, and throughout the industry) that have allowed them to walk all over Labor and enrich themselves beyond their wildest dreams.

NO Union should ever cross the picket line of another Union...EVER! This would be a completely different industry and profession had we all stood by one another. It should be mandatory when one Union at ANY company goes on strike, EVERY Union at EVERY airline should be out there on the picket line supporting them. We may not be able to always strike with them, but we can send a message to corporate America that the whole industry supports them and we will fight as a whole.

Frankly, we are responsible for what has happened. "It's not my company or my Union, so I'm don't have time" well...that is just what they had hoped for.

Watching the Actors and Producers stand by the Writers is sobering to say the least. Watching Air France, SAS, (that's why they make almost TWICE what their U.S. counterparts make, WITH PENSIONS) walk off their jobs regardless of the consequences demonstrated what American Labor used to have...a backbone. It made me ashamed to still be a part of the U.S. airline industry.

We can't really make a comparison between the Screen Writers Guild and the remaining unions on property at SCABAIR.

When the AMFA members at SCABAIR were on strike in 2005 members of the IAM performed AMFA work. This is about as spineless as actions by a union member can get.

The remaining unions at SCABAIR are an embarrassment to the labor movement.

Hey Necrophilias , I agree !

I would say the only thing worse than performing the struck work you speak of is steeling the work from us in the first place, and then throwing a whole work group, the cleaners, under the bus to get the great AMFA back on the property.

How many lives did you guys destroy with your over inflated egos and short sightedness. The power of the unions are in their numbers and the AMFA made its first bad move by first dividing us and then spitting in the eye of the IAM membership a second and third time telling us that you didn't want the help of the "unskilled".

I don't like the way the IAM handled things during the strike and I did not participate in any training of others in struck work. Pushbacks, airstarts, and cleaning was and still is work that is contracted in my station. To call the IAM a SCAB union is certenly the pot calling the kettel black. The AMFA jumped at the chance to start collecting dues from the replacement workers as soon as it could.

I'd like a bit more solidarity between the work groups. Until then the company will continue to hold the upperhand.

What ever the reason things happened...i.e "it's all about meism" (rampant in America).

The power is in the numbers. The no strike clause in Union contracts was the first stupid thing to ever agree to. You want a no strike clause? Abide by the agreed upon contracts on the property.

No company has ever been important enough for me to even think about crossing a picket line to help the same people that have a gun pointed at the back of my head.

As a reminder, let's not forget there were plenty of NW folks supporting our mechanics...sadly, they ALL should have been.

I assume that you are still an employee of NW. Do you feel that your job is worth keeping? I ask this not to provoke you but rather to answer my own questions about why anyone would continue to work for such a miserable employer.

The IAM didn't waste any time agreeing to perform pushbacks and aircraft cleaning. I recall reading the facts of this issue in an article/interview with Steenland and Debace. That seems like a very firm case for referring to the IAM as a SCAB union.

As for AMFA, I'm sure that in review the entire situation could have been handled better. This fact however does not justify the SCAB actions of the IAM.

It wasn't the first time this happened. Most of the TWU threw the cleaners under the bus in the 2003 concession vote, but no one at AA or the TWU will admit to it.

I do still work for NWA. As for the job, at the current pay scale I can continue to just get by but that isn't what I'm looking to do.
Anything to say for the AMFA pitching the cleaners under the bus?

When one entire group of employees is sacrificed bad things soon follow. This is a key indicator that the employer ought to be "thrown under the bus".

It's now clear that AMFA was determined to reject concessions at any cost. In principle they are right about rejecting concessions. AMFA and NW were wrong to sacrifice an entire group of employees.

I've stated before that my employer has hired some former NW mechanics and one former cleaner. They have been good folks since being hired approximately two years ago. Actually, one of these guys is responsible for steering me to this website.

Don't worry; the 1% raise we'll all get next year will take care of everything......
Kev, it looks like you can make some extra cake over the holidays providing you show up.
Whats the reasoning behind not paying it to you until March though?

I don't have the foggiest idea...

The last 2 times they did this, each manager received a list of who was or wasn't eligible, to make doubly sure there was no one being left out, but that certainly doesn't take 7 weeks...
