What's new

Union WALKOUT cripples port of Los Angeles and Long Beach !

How true, but they start backing up the supply chain you get into some 'national security' issues.

Be a big photo op for Obama...then would be even funnier if union told him to screw off and he had to act presidential against a union.

I think..(again I think) that the 'act' that can be 'attempted' to force them back to work, is the TAFT-HARTLEY act.
However, the Shipping Associations almost NEVER wants them 'Forced' back because of (well you know), mechanical issues/safety issues/ Crane Issues..(I mean, imagine a Fully Loaded 42' Container DROPPED from a height of a couple hundred feet) : )

People can 'Love them, or Hate them' but they Do it "RIGHT", and they are 'far and away' THE Most Respected Union in the US. (Zero contract Violations).

Hey dell,...do you think ANYONE (Even ONE "1" lone individual) Crosses THAT Picket Line ??

GOD Bless them. They are as American as 'Apple Pie' !!

If anyone deserves this nonsense, it's Kalifornia.

Tick, tock, guys.

Have to admit they for now do have power and are not afraid to use it..One of the biggest things that kills us in the airline industry is the RLA. It has allowed airlines to drag out contracts for years only to offer either a token signing bonus or in most cases they drag it out until the economy sours and uses that against the workers for concessions. Been there done that too many times..But it is nice to see a union that backs up other workers in this case clerical workers. Kinda like Europe does when they have a problem with one group the whole country goes out on strike.

Yeah ! And we all see how that's working out for Europe (Greece ring a bell?)! Good call !

Greece and Kalifornia do have many similarity's !

That's what you said before the election.

'Dog,
It's hasn't been easy lately for Eric, since he normally has a 'High batting average' at being Right.

The General Election......and the upcoming Fiscal CLIFF has DROPPED his 'batting average'(kinda' like being in a POLITICAL Slump)

RLA and a spineless rank and file anymore.

And when we go over, I'll still blame the Demorat's for not cutting entitlements !
There goes your 1% raise Barry-O !

Is that smell dog farts or bear farts?... Can't tell the difference these days...

The Panama Canal widening isn't a matter of prediction -- it's dirt being moved as I type. The clock is ticking, and the ILWU's stranglehold is going to be affected.

Look at the following:

Notice anything about the Gulf of Mexico and east coast? Notice anything about the west coast?

Shippers are obligated to pay the prevailing rate when they have material to move at a specific port, but there's nothing in their contracts with the ILWU which says they have to use a specific port.

You can guarantee that once the widening of the canal is done, shippers bringing stuff in from Asia are going to start looking for the lowest bidder. It's not a matter of if anymore -- the lowest bidders will likely be in the RTW states. And when the work starts shifting to Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia, South Carolina and Florida, the ILWU will have nobody to blame but themselves.

Tick, tock, guys.

Yep...the jobs will shift to TExas and Florida and South Carolina (if they will deepen the port). And those jobs will pay less...bringing down the overall average income for the US. Oh gosh...if only EVERYONE would work for less...this country would be a paradise.
