This opens up a growing transatlantic market for United, albeit indirectly. But I suppose it also means that United won't be flying there itself any time soon (not that it had the aircraft to do so right now anyway).
But perhaps more interestingly, this closes the loop where United is now linked to Aer Lingus, which is linked through a codeshare to JetBlue, which is 19% owned by Lufthansa, which has antitrust immunity with United. Makes one go "Hmmmm...."
