Okay, I read it. No real details.

Even if drunk, how did the FAM get involved? I mean, FAMs are supposed to remain incognito. Did the FAM say something to the drunk that might have "earned" a slap? What would have caused the drunk to switch his attention from the FA to his seat-mate? or did a poorly aimed slap at the FA, from a seated position, miss, and hit the FAM. Unlikely.

FAM as "crew member".

I would consider a FAM a crewmember when "roaches" or "ghostriders" are considered crewmembers.

Big difference between the three. FAMs would be closest to being a part of the crew. They brief with us pre-flight and are working inflight for the safe passage of all passengers. I have been a "ghostrider", and I was in no way a part of the crew--they did not even know that I was onboard. Roaches are just passengers and are not working inflight at all...otherwise they'd lay off the multiple vodka tonics.

Short of striking a Federal Officer, I think one of the dumbest things I could do is to attempt to intervene on more than a verbal level.

Physically intervening as a customer just has to many potential bad outcomes on several levels and I'm not eager to test my luck.

The exception being of course is if the customer in question overpowers a smaller F/A and places him/her in real jeopardy.
Bob, I'm glad you have our backs!
