Let's see how our government intervenes with the AA strike that's all but a done deal now that the FA membership voted 96.8% in favor of it...For once I got to agree with Doug on something. The govt. needs to stay out of alot of things.
If there was EVER an industry that has proven to need congressional regulation and oversight, this is it. If it was up to airline CEOs, they would only fly from NY to LA and back, and only at 8 am and 4 pm. Everything else would be an RJ. I remember back a few years ago, when they relaxed the slot requirement at LGA as an experiment. The place turned into an RJ parking lot. Gridlock was so bad that they had to restore the old system. Airline managements have been daring congress to get involved for years, and now it looks like they may get it.
If airlines don't get their stuff together, I predict that trains and busses will be back in a big way. If you're gonna wait three or four hours in a terminal, suffer through outrageous service and have to ride on junky airplanes, you may as well take a bus just about anywhere on the eastern seaboard. Airline managements will have done it to themselves.
never mind the buses.. the bullet trains of the future will be the ones reaping the real revenue
Here is a company I heard about thats running on the east coast be sure to check out the video....gotta admit it looks pretty nice and they drop you off down town

Not saying it works every place but still a good idea....
As to Mr Parkers comments, they are not new and he could have been the CEO of any major domestic carrier. They all want the deck rigged in their favor 100% of the time and with the current political environment post PA, KY & AR primaries it's highly unlikely that there will be significant pro business legislation passed any time soon. So Dougie and all of the others run a very real risk of being saddled with a Passenger Bill of Rights. The airlines attitudes towards customers is slowly starting to bite back. With a significant portion in contentious ond open revolt against the status quo does not bode well for the industry
Really, didn't the US Government lend a few Bucks to the auto industry? Did they regulate them as to what cars they could sell, and where they could or couldn't sell them? Any input as to how much they should sell them to the public for? Did they tell GM that they couldn't sell off any of their brands, or discontinue any of them all together? I don't think so....Get the picture now? Most of the Airlines got the ATSB loans, and all paid them back as far as I know. If US and/or DL own these slots, they should be able to do whatever the heck they want to with them, buy, sell, trade, etc. Too many other Airlines run and cry foul to their pals in Washington with hopes of getting something they have no rights to.This kills me. He wants the government to stay out of it unless has to do with the giving for something like an ATSB loan or paying to equip airplanes for the nextgen ATC system.
Maybe he should stay in his own backyard and stop trying to meddle in other airlines business. Ironic that US is run about as well as the US government is.
Who owns the slots? If US and/or DL own these slots, they should be able to do whatever the heck they want to with them, buy, sell, trade, etc.
There was pressure for the employees to kept their retirement and medical and not allow management to make millionsReally, didn't the US Government lend a few Bucks to the auto industry?
