Cargo revenues gained 30.4 percent to $318 million in the fourth quarter to March 31 and yields, or revenue per metric ton of freight, gained 15.5 percent, to a record 805,000 tons in 2007.

Evidence enough that AA should be charging $15 for checked baggage. If any airline has brass ones they would rate their pax tix by the kg and tack on the appropriate fuel surcharge per kg. Revenue problem solved! Labor is happy! Profits galore!

UA used to have a $900mil cargo business (putting aside the fact that the receivables were running 180 days overdue).
But they never regarded cargo as a genuine revenue center like NW & AA.

Boxes ain't glamorous but they sure do pay the bills! With this weak dollar every intl departure is full.

Those who used to snicker at the thought of working for FX/5X would certainly switch employers now!
