What's new

Usairways abuses its passengers once again.

Saber pulls up WN but you have to ask for WN specially and you can't sell it

Please cite sources that state that Sabre is preferred by "most airlines etc" as opposed to Shares...... Thanks!

Sabre is a computer reservations system/global distribution system (GDS) used by airlines, railways, hotels, travel agents and other travel companies. Sabre GDS is a unit of Sabre Holdings' Sabre Travel Network division. Current North American hosted carriers include Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, Cape Air Nantucket Airlines, Frontier Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, Mesa Airlines, and Midwest Airlines.

Originally used only by AA, the system was expanded to travel agents in 1976. It is currently used by a large number of companies, including Eurostar, SNCF, and US Airways. Today the system connects more than 30,000 travel agents and 3 million consumers with more than 400 airlines, 50 car-rental companies, 35,000 hotels and dozens of railways, tour companies, ferries and cruise lines.

Tadjr, it was reported sometime back by INT about WN availability and the answer came back that "we" sometimes protect on WN. We challenged it that "WE" did not have as you correctly state a tktg agreement with WN and that the former HP reps were adamant that there was none and that this type of incident would occur. We were told it would remain in availability!

Yeah, and add to all of this that the kiosks went down in CLT AGAIN (briefly) on Sunday morning and what kind of story (read: lie) will management give our customers?

when will people quit bitching about shares cutover causing delays? yes, it was a mess ..I'm not denying that. but if we had stuck with sabre there likely would have been messes as well. Something like cutting over to a whole new res system is not a small undertaking, so it's very likely there would have been glitches if we cutover from shares to sabre. In addition, employees on the west would have to go through a learning curve. The difference: it wouldn't have affected employees on the east, so it's not really a big deal.

To the contrary, when PI cut over from EA's res system to an in-house mainframe system (PACER), there was not one glitch system wide.

OTOH, when US cut over to SABRE, it was a Charlie Fox.

AS the saying goes, there's never enough time or money to do it right, but always enough time and money to do it over.

If SHARES is to SABRE what SABRE was to PACER, y'all are in long term trouble. The name of the game is efficiency (fewer keystrokes) and operating in a DOS-like environment does not contribute to that.

My corporate travel agent, American Express Travel, which I believe is Sabre, is still not pulling up seat maps for USAirways flights.

Heres another suggestion then. Why not send more of the West agents out East to train again and get some of the cities up to speed on the system? First hand user knowledge would be very beneficial right now, plus we could use the extra coverage. They've already mandatoried 2 agents for tomorrow using the "unusual circumstances" clause in the contract.

PHX will be sending up to 15 more agents back East for 30 day rotations begining April 1. I know a lot of junior agents went the last round and hopefully that won't be the case this time.

You guys are gonna love this one. The sup got a call the other day from PIT that they were sending about 20 people to TPA to conx to WN to FLL. Problem is they didnt have tickets. The sup asked why they were sending people with no tickets. They replied they were going to go in and redo the tickets, but the system wouldnt let them. Sup said we dont have a ticketing agreement with WN in the first place, why did you send them. Well, it sold it in SHARES! Dont know if these are new people in PIT or just really forgetful or thought that since it sold in Shares it was ok, but we dont have a ticket agreement with WN yet SHARES allows us to "sell" seats on them. Keep the WN skd, but yank the availability NOW! Needless to say, the manager in PIT got out his little checkbook and wrote a nice big check to the WN guys in PIT.
Why WN flights come up in availability when I'm searching for a flight is beyond me. Another "glitch" in the system?

I've seen this many times out West before and it's extremely irritating. Misconnects com ein from a field station with WN segments in the rez. While it doesn't actually sell (HK) the segment, it will keep it in PN status.

Philly does not want west agents in our station. The last ones here were sent home because they didn't know how to behave. They have assisted us with NADA!

This is just a ploy to show customers we have no staffing issues. It is the biggest joke of all.

Stay home westies, you aren't wanted in our station. PERIOD.

Someone from the PHL station telling anyone else, from anywhere on the system that they "don't know how to behave" is the single funniest thing I've read here in a month.

In fact, it should be nominated for an award of some sort. Really.

STOP...YOUR BUST'N MY SIDES!  😛 😉

Hey, I have a great idea. Why don't we have west rampers impede on iam turf in Philly. Now that is even funnier. You would have to call in the National Guard.

Now even funnnnier, have west f/a work the east flights with east f/a's!!!

Face it, the company started this fued. We need east management (what is left of them) back in Philly pronto. The Koolaide party is "over".

this is not about east and west....the westies are willing to help out our co workers....
It is not the solution---I AGREE
The union-CWA/IBT has sent a letter to Parker asking for the staffing levels to be corrected----this is what the company-Parker- has come up with for a solution. Keep dividing us---eastie and westie---for sure this is what the company wants.
