NHBB is right, you can try to dig up whatever dirt you want on Obama but the fact is that Bush has done such a number for the republicans that I will vote for Obama no matter what dirt you bring up, and I am willing to bet that there will be a lot of others who feel the same way. Bush has ruined McLame's chances at being the oldest president.

I find myself in(most) agreement with----Guilding the Lily.
Senator Joseph Biden being summoned to the Georgia Republic by no less than the Georgian President himself, certainly speaks volumes about Mr. Biden's Very Strong knowledge of foreign affairs !
(Throw in recent launches of Iranian missles for the "cherry on top of the cake", for Mr. Biden.)
In my opinion, should Sen. Biden Not receive the VP nod, he would be MOST qualified to the office of the Secretary of State!
Senator Obama has a difficult choice ahead to be sure, but I'm of the opinion that the American people are heavily focused on 1. the Economy, with 2. National/world security running a "refocused" second.
Senator McCain, on his best day, is lacking the knowledge of foreign policy that Mr. Biden possess, and further, Senator Biden would be the equal of Mr. McCain and Sen. Lieberman !
I'm forgetting who posted the remark about President Bush having personally "entombed" the republican party, for some time to come, however, that person was spot on !

I am not sure what kind of dirt they could dig up that would cause me to change my vote but short of mass murder I am far more scared of the court McCain would seat than of anything else. I have virtually no interest in giving Roberts/Scalia/Thomas more support to trample the USC. Not to mention the rest of the Federal bench appointments.
And in these days of endless,mindless actions......why wouldn't a prudent American not look in depth to the candidates immediate qualification?Why do you and others have to look at 'dirt'?

Because since 1988 (1974 if you want to get technical), it's been the American way. 1974 we had Watergate and Nixon's resignation. Ever since then, the GOP has tried to "get even". They couldn't get much "dirt" on Carter, who in retrospect may have been looking at 2008 when he made his "malaise" speech. Then there was Reagan. The dems tried to dig up dirt on him...and succeeded with Iran/Contra...no impeachment though. Then it hit the 1988 elections....Willie Horton ring a bell? Then there was the Clinton era...it was a scandal a week there....Whitewater, Troopergate, Travelgate, Vince Fosters "murder", Monicagate. Amazing that a president that sold weapons to a country who would like nothing better than to use them on us never has to face impeachment hearings, but a president who got a blowjob does. Then there was W...who makes "dirty campaigning" an art form. John McSame should know better than anyone, since W and Rove painted him to be, in uncoded wording, a N****r loving philanderer. Then there was the "Swift Boating" of a man who actually knew what it felt like to be shot at by an enemy by a man who couldn't find Alabama, despite Air Guard fighter pilot training.
We don't give a sh*t about issues...give us the dirt. I'll betcha Edward's affair is still getting more scrutiny that McSame's stance du jour on just about any issue. Issues???? Did you know that Obama's middle name is HUSSEIN??? These are the things that are being brought up.
And the age of the internet let's bullshit pass for fact. My ex said she got an e-mail from someone in her networking group that Obama ignored the troops when he was in Afghanistan. I showed her the e-mail she received, VERBATIM on Snopes. It was listed as "false". I got one about how Obama wants to get rid of the mortgage interest deduction. It's another lie. That's the beauty of the internet...and it's what's frightening about the future of America. All it takes is someone forwarding an e-mail full of lies...and 90% of the people who get it BELIEVE it.

There are limited situations where I agree with it. If the state is trying to improve the transportation system then I can see a reason for it. However when Arlington Texas confiscated land to build a new foot ball stadium so that Jerry Jones and his little play mates could make a butt load of money and then on top of that issued public bonds to help pay for it and then on top of that raised the tax in Arlington to help pay for the bonds .... suffice to say I am glad I do not live in that city and I am glad I do not care for sports.
In this case as in a lot of cases I believe it is clear abuse of power on the part of the government. Yes I am fully aware that the democratic minority (with O'conner tilting the balance) voted to uphold the case and that is one issue. Over all, eminent domain does not affect that many people (at least not that I have heard) as opposed to issue such as control over ones body, who one chooses to marry, habeas corpus rights and other issues similar to these. These are issues that I feel are far more important.
Over all, I believe the conservative activist judges are far more dangerous than the liberal activist judges.

I do not know that it is possible to divest ones self from ones upbringing and I am not entirely sure that is what we want. I think it is a double edged sword. One the one hand you have laws that dictate the sentence so if a person steals a pack of gum or someones pension they get the same sentence. I think judge needs some discretion. The problem comes when they abuse the discretion they have. I am not sure what the answer on this one is.
