Sure, I'll get Blamed for "manufacturing" this Wall Street Journal Story.
(Thats the 'Wall Street Journal' , Hardly a BASTION of liberal journalism ) !!

8 'RED' states, 1 barely Blue.
8 'South' of the Mason-Dixon line States, plus OK. Terrotory.
Gee, I wonder how many of them are ' Right to Work States ' !

Can someone/ANYONE plz. tell me WHY, people in those states Keep Voting against thier own Self Interest's ?

If this isn't MASOCHISIM-101, I Really don't know what is !

Are the people in those states REALLY that 'STUPID' ???

I would imagine religious beliefes play a substantial part in it along with a mnisguided sense of patriotism.

Boy oh boy...did you 'NAIL it' with that answer !

I've have said for Decades, MANY decades that the two most Dangerous types of folks here in the USA are (native born)..Religious FANATICS and BLIND Patriots .

How many accurate polls/surveys have we seen over many years of Poor levels of Education, health care etc. deeply rooted in 95% of those states ! ( A few exceptions of some great medical Institutions in NC and TX.)

A great thing about America is the ability to move !
A great thing about "Right to Work" states is not having to pay dues to someone, who does absolutely nothing, in order to work !
How's that whole "Union-Thingey" working out for AA employees right now ?

Hmmm. RTW sounds like a good reason, but "it's the economy, stupid."

Looking at unemployment, 7 of the top 10 with the lowest unemployment are RTW states. They're also largely rural states. When farming is the main source of jobs, there's just not a whole lot of upward mobility in general, and the need for even a high school diploma is questionable.

Won't bother arguing whether that's good or bad, but arguably, some people really are happy just tending to their own land, and not getting caught up in having McMansions, fancy cars, & lots of toys.

Maybe people in those states are happy to work there and are not threatening their employers with leaving because they don't make more money.

Wonder how many blue states and cities are teetering on the edge of BK due to union wages and public pensions?

AND YOU dislike Union wages....WHY, my ol' Friend ??????????

NO ONE is against free market wages. However by Governments very nature there is a skewed playing field as there is no significant competition to act as an appropriate check and balance system.

I'm a corporate trainer and the salaries range from $35 to 100K depending on a host of things. This is a similar pay scale to a public school teacher. No issue as they should make wages in line with their corporate counterparts.

Where the disconnect comes in is the cradle to grave health care, pension and reduced work hours. If you want to make year around wages then work 12 months not 10.5. Also DO NOT feed me the crap about all that you do "At home". ANY dedicated educator does the same whether it's a custom training session or grading student assignments. For years I've been a road warrior, while a public school teacher goes home every night to grade papers while I sit watching Law & Order reruns working on the next days presentation or doing expense reports and the like., What really frosts my loin cloth is the Tenure which renders a teacher unfirable and unaccountable to the school district and those of us who pay their salary.

I for one am tired of paying top dollar Nordstrom Wages and getting Wal-Mart performance.

I was referring to dell in regard to private sector Union Wages that he may have made.
Maybe I misinterpeted what he was Implying,..........Maybe Not !!!!

Not only is there zero competition, but you also have public sector unions driving higher taxes to cover their wages and benefits, without the voters being able to give a thumbs up/down. To me, that borders on taxation without representation, especially when it is a political appointee that they're negotiating with.

Eric,
Do you think company's like (say) BOEING/BNSF/East-West Coast DOCKWORKERS/Subway Workers (NYC)/UPS should have UNIONS ?

Do you think they have the Right to have Unions ?

When you're working for a for-profit company, it should be a matter of choice to associate and share in the profits. Closed shop should be illegal like it is in Australia and other civilized countries. Make the union prove their worth, and give people the ability to fire them without putting their job at risk.

Government? Sorry, that's not a for-profit. You're not negotiating for a cut of the profits. You're negotiating to raise someone else's taxes.
