US Airways passengers who check in online will now find more than a seat assignment and group number on their boarding passes.

In time for the spring-break travel rush, the Tempe-based airline started including advertisements, weather and other tourist information on the boarding documents. Several of its major competitors already do so

(sorry for the typos in the header line,,,should be "tray tables" and "Pepto Bismol")

Delta has been doing it for a while, but the good news with theirs is that you can click on "Print Without Destination Highlights," which I always do, because printing the ads wastes too much ink.

Will US BPs also have an opt-out version?

I noticed this when I checked in for my flight 2 weeks ago. There was an option to print without the ads, which I really appreciated. I am not opposed to this kind of advertising, but I do like the fact that you can print just the boarding pass without all of the fluff.

I liked this quote in the article: "Jackson said US Airways has been open to advertising that isn't 'obtrusive to the customer.' It rejected proposals for ads on overhead bins, he said."

I keep finding it puzzling, I think I looked one time and this sojern company is a equal deal between the majors. I.E they all own an equal percentage of it.

Lo and behold, who'd on the management team there, a company owned by airline management.???

IMO US is missing the boat on some ancilliary revenue. I think they should get Big Pharma to advertise Prostrate Meds on the lids of the F Class Lavs!!! It's a near perfect demographic which would allow US to charge a premium and it's more or less targeted.

Having been in enough airplane lavs, I've concluded long ago that the lavs are a place where many targeted opportunities are missed.
