Just curious. US Airways Today says Monday's OT arrival rate was 33%. Was that a typo or was it that bad a day?

Jim

We have not had a flight arrive on time from PHL in over 10 days. I think the dismal performance is due mainly to most of the delays coming in or out of PHL. Nothing new. Suha will fix the problem asap...... 🙂

I was sorta hoping it was a typo. While I certainly didn't expect the rolling hub to completely cure PHL, I thought there'd be a visible improvement.

I was on a flight from PHL-CLT and it took a 2 1/2 hour deicing delay and ground traffic.

Don't forget once ramp is trained (Ha Ha) deicing will be done by them. They don't have enough help to park A/C must less deice. Those guys don't have the equipment to unload them must less deice an aircraft. Maybe they should have spent money on equipment instead of TV's. <_<

I dont think you will see fleet doing deicing in PHL.

Looks like it's shaping up to be another bad day....

Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) Real-time Status

The status information provided on this site indicates general airport conditions; it is not flight-specific. Check with your airline to determine if your flight is affected.

Due to WEATHER, SNOW, LOW CIGS/VSBY, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Philadelphia International Airport, Philadelphia, PA (PHL). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 1 hour and 16 minutes. To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination".

Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport (FLL) Real-time Status

The status information provided on this site indicates general airport conditions; it is not flight-specific. Check with your airline to determine if your flight is affected.

Due to VOLUME, SEASONAL VOLUME, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Fort Lauderdale/Hollywood International Airport, Fort Lauderdale, FL (FLL). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 22 minutes. To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination".

The latest on PHL....

General Departure Delays: Due to RWY CLOSURE, traffic is experiencing Gate Hold and Taxi delays between 16 minutes and 30 minutes in length and increasing.

Mondays performance was impacted by deicing in most of the major NE cities. DCA, LGA and PHL being the worst. Peak delays out-off in PHL did reach 3 hours. While we were able to deice aircraft at a decent rate, ATC requested that we slow our deicing operation to allow for a higher arrival rate and avoid airplanes returning to deice. LGA had problems with their deicing equipment with only 2 trucks out of 8 operational for the peak morning departures. DCA started the day with a probelm with another airlines aircraft parked at the deicing pad(s) which slowed the deice operation. All in all, the operation tanked becasue fleet launch and first bank(s) were impacted by deice and ATC delays.

TODAY -

PHL, LGA, EWR and ATL all have ground delay programs. Deicing is taking place in PIT, DCA and PHL. LGA and BOS will be getting snow this afternoon / evening.

What some of you fail to recognize is that in the old banking hub, when PHL had a ground delay program, delays would shoot up tp 4 hours or more in no time at all. With the current rolling hub, and an arrival rate of 42-38, delays range from 0 minutes to 2 hours. The 2 hour delays are late this afternoon / evening. This is a tremendous improvement over the old banking hub.

Only one comment, MMW. Admittedly I don't fly in/out of PHL every day but I've never, repeat never, had a 4 hour delay going to PHL. Doesn't mean that they don't happen, just that they weren't nearly automatic every time PHL had Wx issues.

The 2 hours is about the most I've ever seen.

Here's the latest from the FAA on PHL bound traffic.

Due to WEATHER, SNOW, LOW CIG/VIS, there is a Traffic Management Program in effect for traffic arriving Philadelphia International Airport, Philadelphia, PA (PHL). This is causing some arriving flights to be delayed an average of 3 hours and 13 minutes. To see if you may be affected, select your departure airport and check "Delays by Destination".

Jim -

That is because the hard working people in the OCC (mainline and express) have made selective cancellations and reallocated slots to improve performance. When the delay program first roll out, they start with 5-10 minute delays and then delays can get up to 4-6 hours. Without cancellations (or an improved arrival rate) you would have seen delays that high. By utilizing creative resource management, they are able to improve the delay program and reduce delays.

The arrival rate must have been dropped, causing the increase in delays.
