I'm only saying that if you were an air traffic controller and you were told that you are an "essential" employee, but you were NOT getting paid, would you take advantage of some of your sick days? Trump says he's willing to keep the government shut down for months. How long would YOU work a job if you weren't getting a paycheck? The striking controllers were fired and replaced by new controllers. But you know what? Those new controllers were getting paychecks. Let them fire the controllers who call in sick..I'd love to see an ad for their replacements. "Great opportunity for a high stress position. Salary - none until America is made great again". How many takers do you think they'd get?

One of them kept boasting that he knew that no one would take his job while he was on strike. That people just wouldn't be that low down. Imagine his surprise when all the strikers jobs were filled in a very short time.

Now, I'm writing using information that I gained when I worked for the Texas Employment Commission (now known as the Texas Workforce Commission, see the difference? Of course you do.🙄) That makes the information approximately 40 years old, but I think it still applies. There is a Federal law (Wage Theft Law, I think) that prohibits requiring people to work, but not paying them. Govt. shutdowns are probably exempt, but then we never had a govt shutdown until just a few years ago; so, maybe not. It would be really funny if the govt employees required to work end up winning a lawsuit against the government with damages. One of the govt. employee unions has already filed suit to get wages paid on a timely basis.😀

One of them kept boasting that he knew that no one would take his job while he was on strike. That people just wouldn't be that low down. Imagine his surprise when all the strikers jobs were filled in a very short time.

I think they would get a lot actually. With what ATC's make and the benefits they have (including pension) many would be willing to work 2 jobs and wait out the storm.

That being said with all the government shutdowns during the Obama administration you would think they would get wise and start putting money back.

If these ill prepared ATC's want to lose their jobs and pensions let them sick out. Let them see how fast they can be replaced.

Remember your words here today if the Association ever goes on strike. Watch how many will whine about not being able to afford to do so because they made absolutely no preparations.

Let me type slowly for you - AT Controllers were deemed "essential" employees and must show up for work...Now...here's the part to read slowly 'THEY ARE NOT BEING PAID. Yes, when the government reopens, they will get back pay. But back pay in several months (or years if our dear leader is to e believed) won't pay rent or buy food today. How long would you work a job were you aren't being paid, but were promised back pay at some unknown point in the future...perhaps when the infant in the white house turns blue? And if they either start calling in sick, or move on to better jobs, such as driving a bus in Tulsa, they will need to be replaced.

The replacements will need to go to the ATC training center in OKC. But those are NON ESSENTIAL employees, so they have been furloughed. So there is nobody to train the replacements. And if Trump is lucky and he gets his shutdown to last indefinitely, if the ATC system is impacted, then so will the number of flights it will be able to handle. If the number of flights is affected - so is business elsewhere in the country. Remember...when Reagan fired the controllers, not all of them walked. So there was some ready staff to handle *ahem" reduced workload*...Oh yes..and the replacements (and their trainers) were all receiving paychecks back then> Much easier to find a replacement when there is money to be offered.

And if business is impacted, some smaller ones (the backbone of America so I am told) may close. Ah....the visions of a great America.
