Why Don't Ceo's Share The Pain Of Employees?

JMO, but it won’t end anytime soon. Yes UA did give Tilton an iron clad pension as part of his hiring package. (Reported in financial filings 10Q's and annual reports) But they claim that they couldn't get top talent for any less.

It is amazing that the candidates for the hit NBC show, ‘The Apprentice’ were willing to work for only $250K a year. I'd work for that! And I have a plan for UA. 1st and foremost, put the assets of the company to work! All of them! All the time! (assets are more than just planes and gates, they are the employees) 2nd, treat employees as an equal party to this current mess, sit down with all the Unions, in a lockdown state until an agreement can be reached that is truly fair and equitable for all parties, including management. 3rd sit down with all creditors in a similar lockdown state until all issues are resolved. 4th work, work, work! Fly where people want to go and don’t go where people don’t want to go. Streamline service so the passenger in DSM knows that they will always fly on an RJ, while the passenger in MSP knows they will always fly on a B737. Get rid of this partial service mismatch of equipment types so passengers don’t know from one schedule change to the next what to expect. 5th retire ¼ to ½ of the staff at WHQ! Anybody who does not produce revenue will be looked at first to go out the door. Yes it is simplistic, but you have to start somewhere, announce what you will do, be willing to make mistakes, but most of all, you have to have a plan. No plan=no future.

But then again, I don't have my master’s degree as somebody pointed out to me recently. So I guess the solution for the average worker is to go back to school, get that Masters Degree then go to some company that is willing to sign a generous bonus for just going to work.

Scuba,

Great post. You know your stuff and someday you will have the chance to use it and run the show. No Master's degree is needed to be a good leader. The top schools in the country are full of people who have incredible GMAT scores but who can't lead for squat. Anyway, UA definitely isn't the kind of place for those who think outside the box. Good luck with whatever you do.
