Max sustained winds around 125. The damage here is extensive. No where near what Katrina was to LA and MS, but the most this area has seen since even before Andrew. Power is out for nearly all SFLA.

Have to do some errands later. Will check the condition of MIA airport as I go by later. I am only 10 mins from MIA and my guess they toook alot of damage there.

Good luck to all you MIA folks. Hope this is the last one you see for a good long while.

Any word on what time flights will begin this evening?

Assuming the airport reopens later today, the first AA arrivals into MIA look like the all-nighters from EZE, GRU, and GIG, arriving tomorrow morning, assuming they're also not cancelled.

EYW, CUN, CZM, FLL, MIA, PBI, and RSW are all cancelled for the remainder of Monday.

TPA and MCO are open and have been for most of the morning.

EYW will be restricted to residents returning home.

Just heard from a friend, the airport (mia) recieved some serious damage.

I'm off today and tomorrow so I have no idea. Guess I will be surprised when I get back.

There is no power in dade county. I am sure its only worse as you move north. Went almost as far north as Broward not a stop sign or street light. Only a Home depot and winn dixie open for business.

Currently ops cancelled until midmorning Wednesday for both FLL and MIA.

Just heard from a friend, the airport (mia) recieved some serious damage.

The damage at MIA is not at all serious, but it is extensive. A lot of the perimeter fence is down and there are some leaks and minor terminal flooding. Nothing that can't be fixed quickly, but you can't have flights operating into MIA with the flooding and perimter fence down, so it will be until Wednesday or Thursday until they can re-open.

There is some aircraft damage too, but nothing huge. AA had two aircraft parked at MIA, and neither were damaged. The hardest hit part of the airport are the cargo hangers. One runway is already open, but not for scheduled traffic yet, since the terminal remains closed. AA will probably begin flying in planes tomorrow afternoon to get things going on Wednesday afternoon.

Both Miami International and Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood airports closed Monday after suffering damage from Hurricane Wilma, and MIA officials were skeptical whether they could resume flights today.

The roofs of some terminal buildings at MIA were significantly damaged and fencing along the perimeter road was down, said Greg Chin, an airport spokesman.

MIA has reopened as of 5PM EST Tuesday. The first flight in was TAM's daylight flight from Sao Paulo. AA anticipates operating half their schedule tomorrow as they work to get aircraft and crew back into Miami.
