There is no excuse.....! when you are unsure, you should stop and reacess the sitiuation. If your moving in and around aircraft (fixed wing) you should have a basic understanding that it has WINGS, And they tend to extend in a 90 degree angle for some distance away from that big cylindrical part called the fuselage.

I had to have happened on the zipper where the road goes under the terminal...that is the only spot on the zipper in DTW that exposes wingtips to the zipper edge. Also just after the mechanic strike I heard that the regular bus drivers were being replaced with "lower paid" alternates. Incidentally, the zippers are wide enough to allow two busses to pass each other without violating the lines..
