Well Delta has a less than stellar record when transporting pets..I seem to remember many years ago they shipped a bunch of german shepards from germany and they were locked in an unairconditioned cargo hold in the middle of the summer needless to say they all died.

This seems to be happening a lot lately. A few days ago there was a thread on A.Net from someone whose pet had been lost by DL.

WTF?!

What the agents need to remember is that they should NOT remove the animals from the kennels to pet or cuddle them, no matter how cute they are. 9 times out of 10, that is what happens........the animal gets loose when the door is left unlocked or improperly closed. That's why we started using zip ties on the door, as a precaution.

More than once I was labeled as a curmudgeon because I told someone to not take the animals out of the kennel. The supervisors always turned a blind eye to it, so, I was the bad guy. After 33+ years handling animals, I can tell you that this is exactly the biggest problem.

BTW, lineguy43, I don't think it was German Sheperds.....the only incident that I can remember is a shipment of puppies from STL to SLC.......there were too many in the bin of the 737, it was midsummer and they didn't have proper ventilation. About half of them died. I was involved with taking them all down to the vets office, whether alive or dead. A very sad day. Some very big changes made in how we handled animals after that incident.
