Happy Holidays

...for the 25th year in a row.
Awwww, let's have a pity party in the crew lounge now. As I recall when one took a position at the airline, it was know this is a 24/7, 365 operation. God forbid they require staffing. Instead of saying it is nice that most mainline flights end by 1300 Christmas day, or thanking fellow employees for coming in on Christmas day and serving a holiday meal, you choose to complain. Tell ya what, go get a job at your local union factory where you can cry and picket all you want. What a bunch of bull. It is no wonder this country is in a downward spiral.

You don't get it. He is proud that he has worked Christmas for 25 years in a row and never once had a cold. Geeze can you say that you have been that healthy? His health has helped this country thrive and you are spring loaded to hate and Sh!t. What is this country coming to. Merry Christmas would work just fine right about now.

Well in keeping with the Grinch like tone of this holiday thread.

Merry Christmas (or whatever you celebrate) and Happy New Year to everyone! And a special thank you to all of you who have to work on the holidays to ensure that the rest of us can enjoy time with our family and friends.

Stay safe and warm, everyone!

You're missing the point. (Not surprising as I understand you may see the concept as incomprehensible.)

I made the comment when someone wished a nice holiday by spending time with family and friends. And that's true.

But on this message board, it didn't go far enough in acknowledging the efforts of those who work and, like me and my crew, will be 3000+ miles from home for the entire Christmas Day. Do we, who are spending this time with crew in a mostly closed down hotel, not deserve to have a nice holiday too? Can the holiday only be nice if you are with family and friends?

With all due respect was this not known to you as a possibility when you signed on with US Airways?

Holidays, like life are what you make it. You want to focus on the negative? That's fine. But each of us wakes up daily and we have a choice to get mad or get glad. No one can make that choice for us as it comes from within.

I've had a rather rough go of things these last few years. Really rough to be frank. Yet I'm quite thankful for the things I do have. I'm blessed in so many ways, No I won't be spending the Holidays with my family as I am 1200 miles away and to broke to go home. I can however still afford a phone so we will talk and make the best of a bad situation. I lost my best friend and lover this year, day before my birthday in fact. I keep her memories close at heart. The joy she brought even in her weakened condition makes me smile to this very day.

Could I focus on how sad losing her made me feel? Sure, I prefer to look back at all the fun stuff. Watching Law & Order re-runs via the phone while she was in Hospital back east, Whining about how the Eagles sucked and debating if Andy Ried should be fired. The political debates and the kisses after the close of a long day.

So while I'm sorry to hear that you're away from the family when apparently you don't want to be, be thankful that you have that family and they will welcome you home very soon.

God Bless all who are on duty and away from home, keep them safe and return them promptly to their loved ones. The Happiest Holiday wishes to all.
