Just read last night about Vision Airlines starting to spread their wings over in the Florida pan handle at the new airport. Also read where GSP will be announcing a new LCC airline to start flights there in March. Could this just be another Independence Air? Although Vision Air is going to continue the charter and military bus. where Independence did not. Goto visionarlines.com and check out their route map. Could this possibly be a new rival for Southwest, or just another airline going up against the legacies... I think this will be the new airline going into GSP, unless it might be Virgin, but we already know that it is not Jet Blue or Frontier. Interesting...

After doing a search for GSP google shows a link: http://www.gspairport.com/

And yes VISION is coming to GSP but I hardly doubt that an airline with 10 Jets and 12 Turboprops would be a threat to SWA.

As of October 2010, the Vision Airlines fleet consists of the following aircraft[4]:
Aircraft Total Passengers Notes
Boeing 737-300 ( 1 ) 148
Boeing 737-400 ( 4 ) 148
Boeing 737-800 ( 1 ) 168
Boeing 767-200ER/EM ( 4 ) 200 Considered the flagship of the fleet by Vision; maintenance managed by Delta TechOps.
Bombardier Dash-8-Q200 ( 1 ) 37
Dornier 228 ( 5 ) 19 One aircraft reported as parked.
Dornier 328 ( 4 ) 30 2 aircraft operating as Branson Air Express
Dornier 328JET ( 2 ) 30 Both aircraft reported as parked.

Remember when Southwest started in the early 70's? All the other airlines said "no worries" "they won't be around for long." Now look at Southwest. Never under-estimate your rivals... You never know.

Allegiant started just like Vision has and now look at Allegiant. One of the most, if not the most, profitable air carriers in the US.

There are some big differences though that are quite noticeable. Allegiant focused on LAS and large Florida markets. Vision is focusing on the panhandle a region with lower demand compared to the rest of Florida. Second Southwest squeezed effiiciency out of what ever they did. Vision has multiple fleet types and not all are active but parked.

Good luck to them they'll need it Southwest would not even fly to the area without heavy subsidies.

As to size. When Southwest started they had FOUR leased planes. Nobody worried because one of them got repossessed. In order to maintain their current schedule with 3 a/c it caused them to focus on tight turns in order to do with 3 what they did with four. That "Can Do" spirit was borne of desperation and carries through to this very day.

Also the world is full of examples of companies that made gobs of money being the big fish in the small pond. WN was once such a company. Will Vision Air be a success? If history is our teacher than likely not. It will all come down to being a very cost conscious, nimble, operationally sound organization out of the chute.

A well conceived product or service, priced fairly can usually find a niche. Take the first two components and throw is solid customer service and you can often grow beyond that niche. PSA and of course WN did a pretty good job at this. NK is doing so as well, so it is possible even in aviation to be different and succeed.

Let's wish them well

They could use a better logo and livery. I cannot understand while so many companies in whatever business fail this crucial part of a business plan. Vision needs some vision in this area.
