I have to say this is one decision the company is making that I totally agree with (apologies to Third Seat Hero :p ). The '10's time has come and gone, and it's operational reliability is horrible.

As a side note (not that this factored into the company's decision at all), the A330 is much more "ramp friendly."

JMO...
I think NW will be retiring any a/c that is going to need heavy maintenance. (Of course I am the same way, when my car starts to cost money to drive, I buy a new one.)
Even tho I am my own mechanic, I wouldn't want to pay for maintenance. And we all know NW doesn't want to pay for maintenance. LOL B)
