PHL-PIT 757 Flights in June

Also looking at PIT service....

DCA-PIT loses its one-way mainline flight on 5/08

One-way mainline service from LGA-PIT stays at least for now.

Let's see. All the things I mentioned above, especially the seamless (A-West) connection and the 757 connector aircraft versus a UA puddle jumper.

Eastbound you're assuming that the 757 from PIT will park on A-West and not A-East (or even B/C since departures to Europe don't need to be on either A concourse). Westbound there's still the possibility of the 757 to PIT will park on A-East if it comes in from Europe.

It would help me to understand your remark regarding on-time performance if you could provide a credible reference that shows that UA's IAD-FRA flights have a better annual on-time FRA arrival record than US's PHL-FRA flights?

According to Flightstats.com, UA's 3 IAD-FRA flights per day had better O/T performance than US' PHL-FRA (2 @ 90% OT and 1 @ 80% vs US @ 76%). Even LH, with their 1 flight per day from both IAD and PHL, has better OT performance than US (although out of PHL it's only a 1 point difference). On the return, UA's OT performance has been even better - 96%, 90%, and 83% vs US' 70%. Plus IAD having more departures a day to and from FRA means a better chance of not having to wait for the next day's flight - the 757 PIT-PHL will only connect with the 2nd PHL-FRA flight.

The airplane is scheduled to be an ETOPS 757. It's very likely that it will head out to Europe after arriving from PIT. If the fleet can withstand actually having a backup airplane, it may then end up on B or C when returning, but that's still unlikely as it would just end up blocking a very busy gate on those concourses.

While it is true that European bound flights don't actually need to leave from the either A (International) Concourse, it has been years since these flights left from other concourses. The airport is entirely set up to have originating PHL passengers arrive curbside (or railside) at the A concourse/ticketing/check-in if they are headed out of the country. The agents working the A concourse ticketing and gates have a particular skillset to makes these flights operate more efficiently. The chance of a European flight leaving from B or C is miniscule.

The A East gates are commonly used by USAirways for arrivals from Europe. We normally have use of at least 4 or 5 gates there for the European arrivals, and they are always used. The only A gates which are almost never used by USAirways are the most convenient to the immigration arrivals hall. Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways and Frontier get those gates it seems almost exclusively.

Did you all see that Southwestern is going down to 3 flights between PIT & PHL!?!

what will becky & floyd do?!

People better start tearing those phone numbers off the crashpad sheets on the bulletin board. US employees count on WN to get to and from PIT more than many might think. WN going to 3 flights will prove extremely difficult for commuters. YIKES! ! ! !

I've never understood (for domestic lineholders) why more people don't try DCA as a base out of PIT--unless the lines are that much inferior to PHL. You can get to DCA or IAD or BWI and have a reasonable chance.
