A 90 minute drive from CLT will yeild more than 5.6 million people. That's a lot of people and potential pax for an airline with a decent fare structure. The reason the O&D numbers are low, imo, is because of the high fares, not because of the population. You'd be surprised how many people drive from CLT to GSO, GSP, RDU and in CAE they drive all the way to ATL to get decent fares. Set up a decent structure out of CLT and they can drive 1.5 hrs and still get a deal.700UW said:

I live in Charlotte and fly out of CLT about 25% of the time at best because of high airfares. Every person I talk to is well aware of lower fares out of GSO and RDU and are willing to make the drive to save money if they can. I always feel lucky if I am able to get a reasonable fare out of CLT. I think most would agree it's nice if you didn't have to tack on four hours just to get to the airport your flying out of, park, and check in ...etc.
