From another message board.

Per January 14 LAWA board meeting, Southwest Airlines and LAWA have reached an agreement whereby Southwest will invest approximately $400.2mil on a wide ranging renovation of the near 30-year old terminal-1 facility at LAX.

Planned renovations include:
o Revised passenger security screening checkpoint
o Design and implemention of new inline baggage sorting system
o Upgrading holdrooms and associated building infrastructure
o Refurbishing the arrival/baggage claim area
o Replace passenger boarding bridges
o Renovate airline support office space
o Replacement of ramp paving sections and associated fuel hydrant pit locations.
o Proprietary improvements include branded improvements unique to Southwest's operational needs

To facilitate the renovations SWA will cover $14.7mil in expenses to relocate US Airways from T-1 to T-3.

That would mean that US would be directly across from AA at T-? 4? / 5? i think with the Bradley Internationl Term in-between. This would be good of course if " The Merger " takes place. Maybe run directional flying out of different terminals.

I had heard this was a possibility - good news. WN could use the space in T-1 and there's some empty space in T-3. If/when the merger takes place, the two-terminal setup will work as long as there's frequent airside bus service between T-3 and T-4.

Is Burger King the only restaurant inTerminal 3?

There's a few others. But T3 is a kind of small and claustrophobic. How many gates would US need? They're all pretty tightly squeezed in there, so I guess that means no chance ever for a widebody again.

Terminal 3 is old and outdated, but it can certainly accommodate widebody aircraft. Virgin Australia has widebody departures at T3. T3 used to be the home of TWA and TW had widebody's there. US only has 3 gates at T1, so there should be plenty of room for them at T3.

Before the USAir merger, PI used T3; their 767s used TW's widebody gates. Some had double jetways, intended for 747s. Those gates may have been reconfigured. T3 does have some good, if pricey, dining options. Gladstone4Fish (an Malibu seafood place) has a location there.

The T3 airside building is still the one has has changed the least since the original LAX horseshoe layout was built. It wasn't that long ago that the old TWA red carpeting (seen in "Airplane!" and many other movies/TV shows was replaced.

It's hard to believe that it has been almost 30 years since T1 was built for PSA and AirCal.

Well, if AMR is in charge after the merger, you needn't worry about those up and down the coasts flights. They will be eliminated within a year. Remember AMR has already purchased at least one airline to develop a West Coast north-south presence. No vestige of that airline remains. We just can't seem to make routes work in that area. I worked a not-too-early weekday LAX-SFO flight not long ago. On a 737, we had 34 passengers.

Us air bought an airline that had all the west coast flights you could want. Now, they don't have any of those flights, and that airline within an airline consists of all rjs.

While most of your post is accurate your assumption that the airline now named PSA has anything remotely to do with the original PSA is way off base.
The now PSA airline was formerly Jet Stream which was owned by Piedmont Airlines in 1995, almost 10 years after the original PSA Airlines had been bought by US Air, US Air renamed JetStream PSA to keep the trademark name from being used by anyone else.

If that's the case pax better hope airside service is a hell of a lot more frequent than the "A" bus landside!
