1st the payroll employee screw, now the Gold FFs

All 'true' golds should be firing off emails to dividend miles.....I just let them have it!! But given how much they care about us in general, I doubt this will rattle any cages.

Was silver, still silver. Flying AA to ORD in two weeks to get the 5000 bonus miles from a promotion on a ticket 25% lower than US.

Glad to know I wasn't the only one flying to ORD for the bonus miles.

I am currently CP and worked my way through the ranks of Silver, Gold, and CP over the course of 10 years by loyally flying the airline and accepting various flight challenges and bonuses offered by US. I did not participate in "Everything Counts" because I earn status by flying segments and this promotion did not benefit me. I found it also to be an example of the devaluation of the Dividend Miles program if someone could sit at home and buy stuff to earn status.

I also find the Gold giveaway insulting and it obviously devalues the Dividend Miles program even further as others have already stated.

I'd like to know if all base and Silver members are getting the bump up or if it is random selection? My sig other legitimately qualified for Silver with 30 segments, but to my knowledge he has not received the Gold giveaway.

One poster in this forum alluded to the fact that there is something going on behind the scenes, but could not share it with us. I'd like to know the reasoning behind giving away credit for 60 segments and 50,000 preferred miles.

It seems some of these Gold upgrades have also received an email offering them a way to buy their way from Silver to Gold (after they received the Gold bump). So, Barbell, where's the master plan in that? Or has a competing airline had a mole activated in the US IT department, undermining all their various efforts so the public will loose all confidence in US? 😉

The FlyerTalk thread on this subject has had over 8,500 views. That's HUGE! There are a lot of people watching this problem.

Has anyone noticed if there is any commonality among those who seem to be getting the upgraded status? Things like route patterns, length of stage and/or employers (or any other recurrent group of fliers)? For example, I remember US1YFARE discussing, at least in part, his employer having LCC at one time named a preferred carrier. I also seem to remember that his company may have changed their carriers-of-choice. Could this simply be related, in some part, to new companies signing on and perhaps other companies having left?

I never directly worked in the Marketing department for AWA, although I sometimes did things to help them by taking the time to speak with customers on flights, finding out their preferences and taking advantage of opportunities to gain that customer's business, especially when they seemed happy with AWA's service and were unhappy with their old carrier. (Yes, I know folks wonder how this could have been, but remember that many folks had equated AWA with WN and were pleased to find out that the comparison wasn't entirely correct and that AWA could put out a decent product for many of them, especially in the short-to-medium stage length. Also remember that I basically only worked F/C the last three years.)

So, has anyone noticed if anything such as I described may be accurate and/or valid?

The FlyerTalk thread on this subject makes for interesting reading, and the FF's there are wondering the same thing - is there any rhyme or reason to this.

There's people who flew US little if any in 2006 getting free Gold status while others who were only slightly short of earning Gold are told either that they can't get it or will have to pay (based on a formula).

There are Silvers getting an email announcing they've been given free Gold status then receiving another email stating what it will cost them to purchase Gold (using that formula).

And of course, there's those that earned Gold the hard way - butts in the seats for the required miles/segments - that are upset that US is giving away the very same benefit they earned playing by the rules.
