When I worked in MEM, the CBP would turn working the AMS & MBJ flights into a sport.
... And yeah; these guys *are* dumb- all the more so, since several people got busted here for trying to smuggle the EXACT same way not too long ago.
One note from pedantry place: The article says an ALA is a "baggage handler." It's actually Delta-ese for "crew chief."
These people will be given due process under the law.No union to protect these workers and condone this behavior!

I know you're probably ignorant of the facts regarding union workers, so I'll cut you some slack for a change.
In a criminal case, I'm pretty certain there's no implied duty to represent them.
Kev can correct me, but the only duty a union would have to these idiots is if the Company took action against them before the Feds did.

Fair enough, but what about when the union itself is the one condoning illegal actions? The other day there was an IBEW protest in Brookline at a project using non-union labor (didn't know such a thing existed in MA) and the union members were trespassing private property, police were on the scene but didn't ask them to leave. Last summer the IBEW held protest outside VZ executives homes in the NY/NJ area, sometimes even trespassing on their property and impeding traffic. Ah the double standards...
