600-700 of Co's F/A's are subject to furlough...

Sadly, this is what I had to wake up to today. I am on the list and can hope we can swing 600-700 leaves as we did last year. We offered a 5 & 9 month leave package and it's to commence on 9/12/09. I don't know what I will do with myself if I get furloughed. This has been my career for 10 years.

Sorry to hear that. I'm one of the 1200 on the furlough list at American. Good luck. By the way, what is the hire date of the most senior person on the furlough list? I have a friend who started with CO in Oct. or Nov. of 2000. But, I don't think they have done that much hiring since then like the rest of us, have they?

I believe CO has been hiring more than the rest over the years.

Best of luck to you Hot,,,I've been on the street for 6 1/2 years so I can empathize with what you're feeling. It's a hard career and lifestyle to leave...especially through no fault of your own. If it happens hopefully your time on the beach won't be as long and ugly as mine has been.

Will those subject to furlough have unlimted recall rights?

I did some research and it appears last year we needed 1800 to take leaves and got them with no problem. So it appears the junior people who want the leaves won't be getting them. Even though we offered 1800 leaves last year we still managed to hire 3 classes. We also are still getting aircraft, we will be getting 757-300's this year, the last 4 froma ATA and will also be getting 737-800/900's which is great because they are staffed with 4-5 F/A's. The only thing that's really holding us back is the 787's. From what I gather is, if we got them when we were supposed to, we would be hiring. So it looks like so far we are all safe! It's just going to be a slow winter. If I do end up getting furloughed, it will only be for 5-9 months and I would of/will gone back to school. I have been wanting to get into the hotel industry and possibly have that as a second career and to patership fly till I get off reserve. I guess I'll know by August!
