767 engine fire/damage at LAX

The final disposition of the airplane is awaiting the decision of the insurance company. It is the general consensus that it is a goner. It is sitting in Limbo Land outside the old TWA hangar.

One piece of the LPT wheel skipped 3300 feet across two runways and numerous taxiways, leaving divots as it went. The divots were tracked, and led investigators to the perimeter fence on the South edge of the airport. The piece struck a metal chain link fence post, moving it and its concrete base in the ground so the post was at a 45 degree angle. Good thing it didn't hit anything, huh? Sounds like it would have gone through an airplane or vehicle like a Ninja star.

Or a person standing on the ramp minding their business and doing their thing. I am pretty sure it would have left a mark.

Interestingly, after the shaft broke, another turbine wheel fell on the ramp and rolled around the airplane like a quarter until it fell over.
