What's new

9000 flight numbers?

those are typically a ferry flights if operated by usair. I think it may also be a Star Alliance Carrier, but not sure

9000 series are
ferry
mtc. ferry
charters
xtra sections
military charter
and road feed

Here is why I ask. Yesterday I noticed a daily trip come into the reserve book that operated flight numbers: 9020 CLT-CMH, 9021 CHM-CLT, 9022 CLT-ORF, 9023 ORF-CLT. I was wondering if those flights were suppose to be express flights, but operated by mainline yesterday for some reason. I just can't remember the last time I've seen CHM as mainline.

Those were all xtra sections.

Mainline does fly into CMH from CLT and DCA

the xtra sections were to cover canc. xpress flts.

Thanks for the info!

I guess it was just wishful thinking that we could be taking back some of our flying.

I'm not sure if CLT and DCA to CMH is new or not. I too thought it was pure express until I looked it up today.

Could someone tell me who operates the 9000 flight numbers?
Mainline systems charter, ferry, craf and extra sections. For F/A's, flying one usually changes the monthly hour obligation,i.e. if you pick up a system charter from administration, you can drop your entire line (but still be responsible for the hours),so in essence, you would have an open block. 9000 numbered trips are posted in each crew base and are also available on the 800 charter info and bid line, and must be picked up from admin ,not crew sched, at least two days in advance. These go very senior as you can imagine, especially the football teams, and the celebrity charters.

That is true for System Bid Charters. But in this case, it was xtra sections arranged day of departure and a pairing built for those flts.

Also, some charters are incorporated into regular pairings when pairings are built, months in advance.

You are right, the above senarios do not fall into system bid pairings offered by inflight administration.

Is it normal for a mainline crew to be quick called to cover cancelled express flights?

If we have the crew and equipment, and are unable to reaccom the pax, then yes...albeit not very often. I have never seen the reverse happen, however. Also, I've not seen it happen in a city mainline does not operate.

Not normal, but it's been done. August, 2004...Mesa cancels ALB-DCA, due to MTX. Guess who's on that flight? The Bush Twins. BOS shuttle makes a enroute stop to pick 'em up! Makes the Washington Post. Next bid, Mesa DCA base shut down.

operated by mainline yesterday for some reason. .
These flights ran because US AIRWAYS EXPRESS CANCELED had to REACCOMMODATE the passengers no were to put them. MAN THIS IS GOING TO BE A LONG SUMMER
