Now, as most of you know, I am by nature a bleeding-heart, liberal, pinko-communist Democrat. Actually, I'm an honest Southerner who is willing to admit that no one in the South would be caught dead being called a Republican up until the time the Congress and that liberal busy body Lyndon Johnson passed the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and the Voting Rights Act of 1965. Even the word. Republican, was spoken in a whisper behind one's hand. "You know, he's a Republican." The way one might say, "You know she's been married 3 times. None of those children has the same Daddy."
That being said, I am deeply disappointed in the performance of Obama as president. (Maybe we should avoid law school professors. I know we got a good one with Woodrow Wilson, but he could have been a fluke.) And, when I look at what the Republicans are offering or the Democrats that might step in should Obama decide not to run for a second term, I shudder. I think it says a lot about us as a people when you look at the low caliber of people (and I include all of the current Congress, both sides of the aisle) we attract to lead us.
I propose that we institute a divine right monarchy. You put one person in charge. He/she rules by the grace of God. Makes all major decisions. If he/she screws up, you chop off their head and hire their cousin from Germany. Worked beautifully in Great Britain for centuries. Do remember they ruled most of the known world at one point. It wasn't until Parliament got the upper hand on the young Queen Victoria in 1835 and all that democracy broke out that Great Britain started down the tubes.
One has to keep in mind that when the Greeks invented democracy, they assumed an educated, land-owning electorate. We have an electorate where more people vote in the American Idol finals than vote in our presidential elections.
Discuss.
