AA Investigations

From what I hear , it was JPMorgan who informed AA of this.. Seems that when multiple people request large sums of money at the same time in the same area, red flags go up.. Same as FMLA fraud.. Thats a federal thing, but AA will still investigate you using there own PI....Happened at Tulsa several times...

Ok.
Why would AA investigate anyone as far as 401k is concerned or remove someone that has not yet been convicted of a crime ?
Under what authority?
I was not aware that the company has access to my 401k account anyway.
It seems this is a law enforcement and IRS issue.
Can someone explain?

FYI, I don't think the company has paid for country club memberships or other fluff for a while now. That's all disclosed in the SEC filings.

If they were doing tax fraud or violating the 401K policy, AA isn't the injured party, but you bet your arse they're going to cooperate...

Everyone fired now for stupidity is one less person to furlough later.

I have to admit I am surprised how many of you guys think this is ok or not a big deal.
I am against all illegal activity ,blue or white collar.

Heres is what was happening as I was told...Guys were taking money out of there 401K for the purpose of a personal home purchase, which is fine as long as its for your OWN home.. Groups of guys were pooling there monies together to buy homes and flip them and make a profit.. which is fraud and a felony....

AND I THINK THEY WERE BUYING LAND AS INVESTMENT?

but if this is truly happening to these fellows at AA, then how about the coporate exces making millions upon millions and not even making a profit or if there a merger they win while the little ones lose out? it seems to me they get away with everything and yet with something like this the little folks get nailed fast and hard something is wrong with this picture To me, if there going to investigate this, then the entire upper mgmt from the CEO on down ought to be investigated for all the huge dough they get and the mistakes they make

You're blurring the distinction between legalities and moral principals.

I and almost everyone on this board agree it's morally wrong to hose and lie to your workers while collecting millions for breathing, but it's not illegal. Doing what these people did is, among other things, tax fraud - the feds haven't a very good sense of humor re: that at all.

This ought to get real interesting considering the vp represented the other 2 stores clerks last year in this scam and as I was told by them; advised them to resign from the company. 😱 These clerks actually picketed the 565 meetings for awhile trying to get them to actually do something for them, other than the resign advice they received.

Hey...eolesen,.................watch this;

"I,...NewHampshire Black Bears....think that what these Individuals did, as far as this 401K thing is concerned, ...that if found guilty,.....should be TERMINATED from ever working again for AMR corp." !!

How did I do "E" ???????

(Fact is, AA will be the least of their problems)

Thats because they make the laws.

So I guess that Rosa Parks should have just taken her designated place on the bus and not broken "the law".

Most people start to lose respect for the law when the laws are either not enforced uniformly or not written fairly in the first place. Its legal for corporate leaders to lie and mislead workers in order to defraud them of their compensation. Its legal for corporations, who only pay tax on their net profits to manipulate their spending so they dont pay any tax but its illegal for workers to try and do likewise. Corporate executives are able to defer many of their living expenses on to the corporations spreadsheets, company car or limo, company paid green fees, company provided meals and business travel etc.

If a corporation did what these individuals did , took their pretax dollars and made a capital investment it would be legal. Thats why many dont see it as a big deal.

Wow, can't believe you just went there with this comparison.

I am pretty sure you are wrong on this account. The laws them selves seem to be pretty equitably enforced. There is an issue of being able to financially afford to fight it and an issue of how astute a lawyer one can afford. Most of what I have heard corporations do could be done by an individual if they had the means.

Do you have an example f a corporation taking pre-tax dollars to make a capital investment?

Why not, she broke the law didnt she? Limit was suprised that many did not feel that what these people are accused of was that reprehensible and stated that he/she was against all illegal activity. Well what Rosa Parks did was illegal, should she have been punished? Some would argue that the process allowed her to challenge the law in the courts and wait for remedy there thus she should have been punished regardles of whether she was right or wrong. So, was Rosa Parks right to break the law? If you were a juror would you vote for conviction?

That in itself makes the law inequitably enforced. If you can get out of the penalty because you have the means then its not equitable.

Sure, AA buying TWA, Air Cal, Reno Air, Trans Carib, London routes off TWA, carib routes from EAL, aircraft purchases, buyback of stock, Goldhoffers, new furniture for the executive offices etc etc.

There is a theory out there that the Eboard made a deal with the company to halt the investigation a year ago and in return they would allow the company to fire the 5 stock clerks without the possibility of arbitration. If one of the members is dirty, it surely seems plausible considering no one is stupid enough to do it after watching people get fired for it. I just wonder if the VP will be the last Eboard person to go down for this.

Not at all surprising that the folks justifying this unethical activity are the same lot who think sleeping on the job is perfectly acceptable, and stealing diamonds out of customer baggage was a justifiable response to the 2003 pay cuts....

How unfortunate.

ROSA PARKS AND 401K FRAUD COMPARISON?

401k laws do not apply different if you are black or white.
