ABC Spills beans about covert action in Iran

I enjoyed the comments section...almost 10:1 against ABC for betraying secrecy...anything for ratings you know....

An old friend once commented on somethings ABC did 'back in the day' if you will...

About fits still i'd guess.

And no one says boo about the folks who actually leaked the info.

Perhaps ABC felt it was in the nations best interest to know that Cheney and Co. are looking to instigate another conflict in the ME to divert attention away from their other failed endeavors. I for one am very glad that ABC published the leaks.

So its ok to expose a bunch of Seals or Rangers or Delta Force to possible death in your book to justify some mundane sense of peckerheadsmanship?

It probably was not wise for ABC to publish that info... but on the same token it wasn't wise for someone (most likely in the Bush administration) to leak that info to ABC.

They should be tried for Treason,...There I said it!

ABC's report has also caught the attention of at least two Republicans running for president.

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney said he was "shocked."

"The reporting has the potential of jeopardizing our national security," Romney said. "To put it quite plainly, it has the potential of affecting human life, we may never know."

Rep. Tom Tancredo of Colorado called it "absolutely irresponsible for any media to publish a story like this."

"When foreign governments and terrorist groups can simply watch the news to find out about potential U.S. intelligence operations, we have a problem on our hands."

Tancredo will ask the attorney general to open a criminal probe into the source of the leak and the network's decision to disclose the information, as well as call for congressional hearings.

"I just hope Democrats and the media show as much interest in this as they did over Valerie Plame," he said.

ABC did receive some supportive comments on its thread, including:

"I for one appreciate ABC's courage in letting Americans know what the government is up to. It's the present insane U.S. government, not the Iranian, that's a threat to U.S. citizens." (Janet)

"Thank you, ABC News for keeping the public informed on the idiotic plans the Bush administration has in place to further escalate the conflict in the Middle East. Cheney is trying is hardest to start a war with Iran. The people of the U.S. need to WAKE UP and put an end to this madness. We need more accountability in Washington to prevent another Iraq from destroying the region." (Eric)

"Hurrah to ABC! Anybody with half a brain is going to know that this info was deliberately leaked by the 'Bushies.' More posturing. More cowboy diplomacy! Thanks ABC for doing the job the press is supposed to be doing and should have been doing in 2001." (Rob Meyer)

Yes, but Tweedle Dee and Tweedle dumb do not seem to see the part of it about the probability of the Bush camp leaking info yet again.

Yeah and putting lives at risk who are operating under covert conditions.
The American public does not have carte blanche priviledge to covert ops.ABC should be sued.

Did they give the location of a US Special Forces team operating inside Iran? No they did not. That's assuming of course that they are in Iran. In fact the link given did not mention anything about US Special Forces teams being there in the first place.

Now let’s say for the sake of argument that it said "US Special Forces teams are operating in Iran". Do you think the Iranians would read this and say "Oh crap, the great Satan has commandoes in our country. Better start combing the country side for them." My guess is that paranoid as the mullahs are I bet you they have all kinds of conspiracy theories floating around in their twisted little brains. One of them being US troops being inside their country. With what amounts to a civil war going on in Iraq I have a feeling they are already watching their borders closely already

It's kind of interesting reading what both sides have to say about this. One side basically accuses ABC of treason and the other praises ABC. Has anybody considered that the "leak" was authorized by the higher ups as part of a disinformation campaign? They really don't have to do anything other than plant the story.

The Iranians get a hold of this and their paranoia goes up by a factor of ten. After all, if any country has the resources to carry this out we do. Then all these mullahs start seeing enemies where there are none. They start getting on the law enforcement agencies and the IRG to root out enemies. Basically making peoples live miserable. Some guy buys a new car in Tehran and instead of people thinking "Hey Abdul bought a new car" they think "Wonder where he got the money from"?
