AFA PHL Meeting Today

Scheduling got me so I couldn't go, but heard it was 75% reserves, and most of the blockholders present were partial year reserves... no surprise there. Picking up on any priorities AFA?

I wasn't able to make it but I heard it was a total waste of time. People were asking stupid questions. Then, while they were answering legitimate questions, those people with the stupid questions kept interrupting so they never heard the answer to the good questions. One girl stood up and said she got a no contact because scheduling called while she was taking a sh!t. People were complaining about scheduling and how rude they are, not to name any names. Then, someone yelled out "Georgia" Scheduling said they will be disciplining those who are rude to us.

There were around thirty something people who attended, mostly reserves. A few block holders attended. One blockholder (27 years) stood up and told the union it is wrong what they are doing to us. He seemed cool. Another one stood up and said it was wrong too but that nobody cared about what she had to say because she didn't know what she was talking about.

It didn't sound like very much was accomplished.

And this shocks you why??????

NOTHING EVER COMES OF THOSE MEETINGS!!!!!!

Just the "We understand" bull sh*t!!

It didn't shock me at all that it wasn't a productive meeting. Funny how they always say that "they understand" yet they never do anything to about it. Until they have been in our shoes for several months, they will never understand.

Oh, I can give you THEIR answer on this one....

"We are under a working agreement with the company that is not amendable until 2012". Unless it is something that needs to be changed to benefit the block holders then we would write a side letter to have it amended. Otherwise, f&%$ off!!!!

So true!

......and the reason why such a poor turnout. No one really cares, including the leaders who could, if they really wanted to, make a difference. Nothing but lip service that starts with DP and continues all the way down to our local LEC offices.

One more piece of evidence that proves no one really cares.....of all the threads on this board today, this one has very few posts. One would think all of us FAs here in our little online community would make this thread a must-read hotbed of thoughts and opinions.

I agree. I really wanted to go but actually it turned out that it wasn't a possibility. You want to be heard and voice your displeasure but what does it do? Nothing. I don't want to seem negative but why stray from the norm. 😉 Not much was going to come from the meeting except for a few chuckles due to a few choice comments.

I have given up on this place. When and if the contract come out, I will make my decision based on the following:
1. Parity of pay and benefits between east and west.
2. The best of both sides.
3. Major improvements overall.
4. Changes in the reserve system.
5. A substantial raise.

Well I guess that means I'll be voting a big fat NO, as hell will freeze over before this happens.

Goodness, I've even been on here less as all everything turns into is a east vs west, blockholder hating debate one day, one thread after another. The flying public didn't call us America Worst and Useless Airways for all these years for nothing. We are all thru our actions affirming how much the flying public loathed BOTH companies. Both companies sucked and the combined one does, too. I am an Eastie and I'm sick and tired of everyone on the East acting as if we were some well ran, beloved airline. Wow, there are alot of short memories. We had a very few good years BECAUSE of Stephen Wolf (for whom at the time EVERYONE bashed) and that suffices for all the other years of inept management? Please! And Westies, you are no better. The management team who consist mostly of the former AWA team are like some doctors. They may know how to save lives, but they know NOTHING about people.

If I could make a lateral move to another airline, I woould be soooo out of this hell hole.

I have to disagree with you. (Surprise! )

I think that now, more than ever, we need to be unified and united, showing up at any and all meetings and voicing our opinions! Are you just going to sit back and take what the company has to dish out, or are you just gonna sit on here and cry cry cry?? Are you going to attempt to be involved, be knowledgeable about the current happenings, and educate yourself? There's a lot going on, and I am not talking about glassware and trash bags!

I went to the morning meeting and once we got past some of the {stupid} questions, MF actually spoke for a good hour about where we are in negotiations (very interesting!), what we have actually gotten back thru negotiations so far, and what is to come. I found it quite informative, and am glad that I made the time to go.

I also enjoyed the chance to speak with the Director of Crew Scheduling/ Crew Schedulers to discuss issues affecting those of us looking at reserve for the rest of our natural born lives.

Paul Frishkorn also had an excellent presentation on benefits (BCBS v UHC, open enrollment, etc), retirement, and the new DCP that starts in January. He answered many questions, and was very helpful. As usual, he goes above and beyond. Nice job, Paul.

Finally, I felt that John Mc. is well spoken, ran a good meeting, and was able to answer every question we had. Thanks!

Sorry to interrupt, on with the whining......

Not completely true!

I care and I DIDN'T go.

I commute and was NOT giving up one of the very few days I have off a month. Most reserves have to pick up ETB trips to survive, so that makes even less days off.

So, the questions still stands .... DID ANYONE GO? If so, what happened?

I'm not necessarily saying to take it and like it as a reserve. All I am saying is that all the complaining and "were mad as hell and not gonna take it anymore" stances you take as a reserve changes a big N-O-T-H-I-N-G! ! ! ! I wouldn't waste one of my FEW good days off to sit and watch that crap. SORRY. I thought about going and finally decided that I didn't want to hear all the BS about negotiations (a joke in itself)or how though they feel our pain we are working under a ratified contract. Do we need to go to a meeting to get "the dirt" about negotiations? Be a productive union and put the information out to the members as to the state of negotiations. The whole thing is probably more entertaining than your local drag show. Serve cocktails? About the only thing exciting would be the "Elizabeth $h!t" story.
