CWA, AFA Explore Affiliation Partnership

Washington, D.C. -- The Communications Workers of America and the Association of Flight Attendants are exploring a partnership that will enhance and expand representation of airline workers at both unions.

Talks among leadership groups of the two unions have been very positive in working toward an affiliation that will benefit both AFA and CWA members.

CWA already has a strong working partnership with AFA, as members from both unions have supported each other in US Airways bargaining, at shareholder meetings and in advancing industry safety and other issues. An affiliation between AFA and CWA would strengthen bargaining, mobilization and organizing throughout the industry.

CWA is excited and enthusiastic about these continuing talks, said CWA President Morton Bahr. AFA is a dynamic and professional organization. We have worked well together in the past and we would be proud to unite with AFA and take that partnership into the future, he said.

I wonder if this would have been necessary if the AFA leadership had not spent so much on the Delta Organizing Campaign.
