An airbus with 260 aboard landed safely at Miami. Total hydraulic failure.

Boy the radio was off by a mile. Not total hydrulic failure. Thank God.

I pulled up the Hydraulic diagrams of the Airbus to today after watching the Foxnews video of the landing. After looking the schematics over I determined that something was being overblown by the media. The only way to have total hydraulic failure on that aircraft is to have some massive damage to the hydraulic lines of all three systems(blue, green, yellow).

In basic terms the blue green and yellow, are these 3 equal but separate hydraulic systems? Do they 3 redundant systems or 3 different, that can be routed to provide functions in the event of a failure of one of the others?

I wish you guys were as casual about NWA's emergency landings as you are AA's. Isn't it amazing how the media can jump on something and just get it all wrong "TOTAL HYDRAULIC FAILURE". What exactly does just a warning light mean though? Could it mean there is no fluid in the system resulting in that system failing? Could it mean there is simply no pressure, which of course is still a failure. Or was it simply an indication issue with no actual hydraulic failure? After all a "warning light" is there to warn of a system failure, so to say it was just a light is a bit silly.

The pilots reported a hydraulic warning light had come on but they remained in full control of the aircraft, Smith said. There are three backup systems on the Airbus, he said.
Who is Smith? I do hope he was misquoted by the media and didn't actually say that there were "three backup systems". Or do you guys not have primary systems?
