One of the biggest problems at the Evansville Regional Airport is the crossing of the airport's two runways.

Although Assistant Airport Manager Gene Olson doesn't consider it a safety issue, "It's a real headache as far as FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) compliance," Olson said.

But solving the problem, or moving at least one of the runways so that they, and the surrounding runway safety areas, do not cross will be costly. One solution is to move the main northeast-southwest runway to the northeast, which would involve relocating a part of Oak Hill Road. Another solution is to move the secondary north-south runway north, which would involve altering Indiana 57, Olson said.

Airport officials will present alternatives for moving the runways and will be seeking public comment on them at a workshop on the airport Master Plan Tuesday at the airport. The workshop will be informal, Olson said. People can come and go as they please and review sketches of alternatives for developing the airport. Free parking will be provided to those who attend. Participants should bring their parking tickets to the terminal for validation for the free parking.
