 Did you all hear about the United Pilot who was removed his flight in Miami due to TSA smelling alcohol on him. He was not charged, but flight was delayed for several hours until they could get a new crew. Its disgraceful that any pilot would disrespect the Company, his fellow crew members and customers by showing up having had too much to drink. I hope they throw the book at him. United has Zero Tolerance for a reason.

Oh, he will be charged. If you wanna play your gonna have to pay. Our venue is not the place but we've all been recklace. Lessons learned by others, very sad for his family.

I understand that he did not have a breath test and the only proof is that someone smelled it on him. Unless he self discloses, there is no proof that he was drinking. I predict that he'll get his job back and full pay.

You have to prove that it isn't just ON him, but IN him. For example, I can't get a pilot fired by 'sloshing' alcohol on his uniform. (Could get decked . . . but that's a different line . . .)

I'll wait for the facts. The majority of security folks are decent, hard workers that have to put up with an enormous amount of public animosity.

However, over the years I've noticed more and more TSA checkpoint workers leaning close to me as I go through the metal detector in uniform. Perhaps they're trying to get a good whiff of me, anxiously awaiting their opportunity to get 15 minutes of fame by snagging one of those drunkard pilots!

Maybe they just like the way you smell????

No, there are just scumbags out there. We used to be like family, not people who would gladly destroy someones life just to get on the 6 o'clock news. If someone is a problem, we'll deal with it.

Yea, I know. Lots of scumbags among us!!

"Guilty unless proven innocent!", eh?

I'm sure you remember the UA crewmember accused of smelling like alcohol by a TSA screener in Spokane a while back.
Pilot removed from flight. Long delay for pax while new pilot found. Pilot tested and totally cleared.
Oh you mean the media, and folks like you judging the case on initial media reports, don't remember it? If you do, than I would assume you would wait for the facts to come out before judging anybody.
Makes for sensational reading though, huh?

I had a friend called onto the carpet for smelling like he was drinking. The fact was he used scope and then had a smoke. He did smell like stale bourbon. Lucky for him I was his witness.

If the pilot didn't test positive, he's not guilty.

A friend of mine lives near SFO and was lucky to get a flight that RONed there. He went home and did a little work around the house. Unfortunately he pulled a hamstring muscle slightly and when he went to work that night ( a redeye) he had a very slight limp.

He went through security and out to the plane where an agent approached him and said the TSA thought he had been drinking. So now he heads for the Burlingame PD for a breath test.
Naturally, he passes the breath test (negative results) and departs with an hour and a half delay.

Turns out this is the 3rd incident at SFO that has proven to be a wrongful accusation and the company is beside themselve with the delays.

Watch out!

Looks like a display of the "HERO EFFECT".

Gotta love the TSA

AKA

Thousands Standing Around

Terrorist Support Agency

Trained Shoe Analysts

Guess we can now add Treacherous Sobriety Analysts
I really wish someone would find a way to take on these jack booted thugs. It takes all I can do to be civil to them. They nauseate me
They are the same jackasses working for TSA now that did before 9-11. Just government trained

So now TSA is trained in "smelling alcohol on crewmembers"?
If I am accused of "smelling like alcohol" you can bet your ass that I will get off of the trip and be tested.
I will also collect pay for the entire trip and have the TSA agent job.
In this fishbowl that we live in and the "fair and balanced" reporting we get from the news media its called CYA.
