ALPA MEC CODE-A-PHONE UPDATE - March 3, 2003
This is Roy Freundlich with a US Airways MEC update for Monday, March 3, with two new items.
Item 1. MEC Chairman Bill Pollock has called the MEC back into session, to reconvene in Herndon, VA on Wednesday, March 5, at 12 noon and adjourn at the completion of business. The agenda is to discuss pilot pension issues.
The meeting will be held at the ALPA Offices in Herndon. All US Airways pilots are encouraged to attend. Please be advised that portions of the meeting will be in closed session.
Item 2. On Saturday, U.S. Bankruptcy Court Judge Mitchell ruled in favor of ALPA''s objection and declined to make a finding on the Company''s proposed order that the court should determine if the plan termination was in violation of our pilots'' collective bargaining agreement. Therefore, the MEC’s grievance challenging the Company''s unilateral action to terminate the pilots'' pension plan is proceeding per our collective bargaining rights under the Railway Labor Act. The grievance is scheduled to be heard at its initial level on Wednesday, March 12 by US Airways Vice President of Flight Operations Captain Ed Bular. The arbitration process will begin if the grievance is denied at this level.
Please remember we have 1827 pilots on furlough.
