American Airlines and one of its labor unions broke off talks Wednesday on extending a contract covering mechanics and other ground workers.

Instead of extending the current contract that expires in May, the company and the Transport Workers Union plan to begin the bigger job of negotiating an entirely new contract.

"Over the past few weeks, American Airlines and the Transport Workers Union held a series of informal, facilitated meetings to discuss a limited number of contract issues," American spokeswoman Sue Gordon said. "These meetings have concluded and the parties have agreed to proceed into formal negotiations ... as originally planned beginning Nov. 7."

Guess that ends all the speculation by some that the deal was already done...

You will not here me praise the TWU International at all, but this time they did right.

This was nothing but a curve ball and we will leave it at that.

What speculation? The deal is a done deal. Six percent raise,Six year contract,1.5% raise per year,Two holidays restored,One week of vacation restored,Full pay sick pay but only five days a year accrual, and increased out of pocket medical benefits. All Jim little has to do is claim it's the best they could do and it'll pass by 51%Yes to 49%No.

Princess is right. Whatever it is that the company proposed (plan A) is probably better than what Jim Little will bring back and try to ram down our throats later on (plan B ). With the dollar dropping and our fearless President itching to send more of our kids to die; this time in Iran, the price of oil will go even higher. I suppose we will have to sacrifice even further.
"Its the best we can do, brother...."

It also ends all speculation that there are airlines lined up ready to bring work our way if a contract was in place. If such was the case, the company would of at least settled the mechanic and related contract with a quick payoff, and went the traditional route with the rest of the twu.

Enough with the rumor mill.

The only thing that seems highly probably is that we ARE GOING TO GET SQUAT!
We are never going to get everything back that we lost.

If you would go back and read the letters, it was Jim Little of the International that threw the curve ball.

WAKE UP and pay attention people

Little and the company are one in the same. A simply phone call from Arpey to Little requesting (ordering, perhaps) a letter as was written is probably closer to the truth. This was simply to gauge the waters without really asking about the general attitudes of the locals. The company actually speaking with the rank and file would be a sign of weakness, wouldn't it?

Offer some BS as was done, see how it's received, then feed the data to the three management advisory groups on AMR's payroll. They'll then figure how to screw the workers and make it appear to be our own doing. Deviously simplistic, isn't it?

Little is a company stooge and probably isn't aware, except in the most general of terms, what attitudes may be during negotiations.

This is all about appearances for both the twu and the company - you wake up.

The curve ball is real and it has been part of the tWU history. Case and point: Lets go back to February 2003, I was in dallas and everyone on the negotiating committee was handed a contract proposal that had written in big letters "REJECTED". No one was aware of this contract proposal but the TWU International rejected it. This alleged contract proposal was never mentioned to the negotiating Committee. This was the TWU puff factor. They were standing up to the company by rejecting something. In reality, that rejected proposal became mostly what we voted on in concessions of 2003. (do your homwework if you don't believe it) Here we are again in 2007 amd the TWU and the company discuss and reject again without our knowledge some proposal between them. What I find amazing is that the rejected proposal had no details! What are they rejecting to? You can bet that history will repeat itself and this new phrase "non-traditional compensation will reappear in the final proposal that we will vote on in 2008. That is the only thing you can take to the bank!

If we get another twu screwing in 2008 I will go on check off and mail my pennys to the international one at a time.

At the price of a stamp per penny? Is that why this union gets away with so much crap, because they represent the foolish?

The better bet would be to open an account in Grand Cayman on line, then pay them with an international check each month, their bank's charges and the delay in collecting (most times a minimum of 2 weeks) would send enough of a message. Is there any written rule or bylaw that says dues must be paid in U.S. Dollars? Sure, it might cost you to have the account but it would be no different than the cost of all the stamps to mail pennys.

The hassel it would cause along with the time consuming task of keeping count would be worth every stamp.

If it gets a little exspensive I could all ways up the anti to dimes ten at a time.

Foolish yes but worth every cent.
;)

You know,

Maybe....just Maybe...this time around(contract), the TUL/AMT's who have rejected AMFA in the past, that willingly(or reluctantly) have gone along with the TWU..................Maybe, ....just Maybe will tell those USELESS BA$TARDS in the locals AND the International....that unless they(twu) brings back a contract "of respect", that "they"...the very SAME people that the TWU could always count on, will NOT stand for anything less than a RAI$E at signing, AND a 3% raise each year for cost of living adjustment, be it for a 3-4-5-6 year contract.

In other words................"Short and Sweet...............(absolutely) ZERO BULL ####" !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(this time) It could happen.
It really could.
