American Eagle will mark the end of an era Thursday when it says so long to its Dallas/Fort Worth Airport satellite terminal and the buses that hauled more than 17 million passengers to the outlying gate area.

The regional-jet affiliate of Fort Worth-based American Airlines is in the process of moving all of its domestic flights over to Terminal B.

The 13-gate facility opened as a stand-alone building for American Eagle on Nov. 4, 2000 near terminals A and C because there were no other gates available for the airline to empty and board its planes. Since then, several airlines have pulled out, including Delta Air Lines, when it freed up 18 gates. Delta had its own satellite building near Terminal E that it used for both regional jets and mainline aircraft. That too sits unused.

D/FW Airport will take control of the 25,000-square-foot facility after the last American Eagle flight arrives at 10:37 a.m. today.

Jeff Benvegnu, vice president of terminal management and airline affairs for D/FW, said the airport is looking at how it can reuse the terminal, including possibly making it a home for general aviation flights.

Not a terminal B exit: the satellite (island) is shut down, and Eagle will occupy almost all of Terminal B at DFW soon as the other carriers move to E.

Yes, but as Swaayze just said, Eagle is only going to remain in A temporarily. The last part of the move to B should be done by this summer. There's already talk of extending the B concourse over to D, similar to how A and C are except that there'd be gates along the B/D connector.

Since DFW is so messed up operationally, <sarcasm> and AA is moving hundreds of flights to DAL </sarcasm>, perhaps it's time to simply close down Terminal A entirely and bulldoze it to the ground? Think of all the rent they'd save. With fewer gates, there'd be fewer flights, and that usually means higher fares since there are fewer seats to be sold at firesale prices...

There is already a connector from B to D with Eagle gates. They had to shut down either one or two gates though due to proximity of the D gates.

Hey Mod (or anyone else): I'm 'old school', and this lettering is confusing me. Could you kindly correlate A/B/C/D to the old 2W/2E/3E/4E nomenclature? Thanks...

Thanks for the diagrams.
So 'D' is the new terminal--is the hotel gone or was 'D' built around it?
As for the rest:
2W is now 'B'
2E is now 'A'
3E is now 'C'
4E is now 'E'

Makes it a lot clearer to someone who hasn't been to DFW (except to park at Founders' Plaza to watch planes) for six or seven years...

Old West Hyatt has been torn down and the new Grand Hyatt has been built into D terminal. East Hyatt is still their across from C terminal.
