Compensation can go up or down. It doesn't matter. management LIED to the employees. The company is dragging their feet in negotiations and still accept bonuses while the employees endure the GREAT LIE.

When management takes concessions from labor under the threat of filing bankruptcy but continue to put their hands in the cookie jar is wrong.

Where else but in American business could one get an 11% raise for losing nearly half a billion dollars? Good work if one can get it.

Your absolutely right, another year of executive bonuses while the workforce is still trying to save the airline under their concessionary contracts from eight years ago. No worries though, it's business as usual at aa.

So it is necessary to keep Arpey and other fat cats competitive with their peers but we mechanics must stay below the midrange salary of our peers.

Arpey received $94,660 in other compensation including $56,440 for security and a $33,000 personal allowance.

$33,000 allowance? At 52 years old and $11million in salary he still gets an "allowance"?

In the meantime we have to wash the companys toxic dirt and chemicals off our work uniforms at home!

I know "Its perfectly normal for executives to get such perks"but come on, this is a company that has continued to post losses and conmtinues to demand concessions from their other employees, Where's the shared sacrifice?

Next week the company will likely be showing us another doom and gloom slideshow about how the company will go out of business if they meet our contract demands (where we ask for $190 million a year back of the $350 million a year we gave them in 2003, they will still be saving over $100 million and they are bringing in $5billion a year more). I guess they are hoping that we dont read the news or that we will one day just accept their position that the rules just dont apply to them.

Fine, sit through theirs and then you present yours. The TWU does have a slide presentation to show don't they?

Of course, any decision to stop pissing off those that are supposedly so important isn't quantifiable or deductible so naturally, no consideration is to be given to how far beginning to mend fences would go toward moving American Airlines back to it's former status as a leader.

Question: If AMR had made money instead of its posted loss, would the BOD have fired the corporation's so-called "leadership"?

We need a season on accountants as well as politicians.

The reason he gets his pay is because it is in his contract. He negotiated it. Good for him. If you all are able to do the same, then good for you.

Are you saying he should turn it down?

Would you?

The sad reality is; that this is the norm in corporate america.
Just look at where the country is going.
Don't expect much sympathy from the general public.
The millionaire are doing a great job protecting their interest.
They have a whole political party behind them. Just look at
how the general public reacts when there is talk that people like
Arpey should pay more taxes....Do I need to say anymore?

I guess you don't believe in lead by example. Yes he should turn it down, and he should step down or resign.

tech,

Yes, AArpey and the other liars should turn it down. Why? Because of PRINCIPLES! Management LIED to labor. They LIED! Do you understand this word? I could care less if he negotiated it in his contract or not. There are things in this world that are important other than money. Having a belief in core values that this country was based on is important. When speaking to people and speaking words of truth are important. Doing what is right all the time is important.

But when management hides behind "this was negotiated in OUR contract" they are trying to rationalize what they are doing is right but they know is wrong.

Bob,

The company can cry doom and gloom all they want. Times are different. The GREAT LIE has been set loose and it is seen as being a LIE. There is nothing else they can fabricate that I will ever believe. If the company has to file BK then DO IT! I will NOT give back anything more. If AA goes out of business then GO OUT OF BUSINESS! I refuse to continue to live under the GREAT LIE!

AA needs to crap or get off the pot. What is it going to be? We gave to save the airline yet we are still losing money. So this indicates that management does NOT know what they are doing. Something has to give here and labor already gave at the office.

Frank Lorenzo has some company. Frank meet Gerard.

So, the TWU-ATD head, Garry Drummond, is outraged Arpey received an 11% raise. I suppose he's seething that his buddy in the TWU hierarchy John Conley also got a 11% pay increase. You'll recall, Conley is the guy who wanted us to accept a bad deal -- get it in the "rearview mirror" and do what's in the "best interest" for AMR, he said. Yep, Conley's pay jumped from $183,256 to $203,556. Hmmm, that's 11%. I guess there's no righteous indignation when the double digit pay increases are in-house.

Wait till I get my ballot for the next twu international officer elections. Oh, wait! We CAN'T vote for these guys. They DON'T live under the contracts they help negotiate and they get pay raises. Just like management.
