Piney: Your right about the bean counting mentality of HP. They were extremely motivated
by the DOT stats which included complaints and not compliments.
I don't remember when it was but I think it was around 2000 when a district manager
came by our station and announced that the goal was to have more flights out of
PHX/LAS than SWA. He didn't say how they were going to do it.
People say its very difficult to run an airline based on catering to more that one group.
Without trying to sound too grandious mabey the next frontier [impossible to avoid
the pun] will be one large airline run according to the particular market.
As to the general subject of crumby USA service, I don't think in the near future that
it will get better. I have no idea what the overhead for Thai Airways vs US airways is
but they've got to be saving gobs on labor. Let's just hope that however it happen's
that we can figure out a way to make money and give the public a possitive experience.
