Also, not to be pedantic, but IIRC, most gun deaths in the US come from domestic situations.

It appears you are correct regarding the majority of gun related deaths.

No, Kev, I'm not going to get concerned about random gun deaths, because they're a rare event.

Nationally, suicides are the largest source of gun deaths. It's somewhere around 60% if not higher. At a city level, it's estimated at 70-80% in places like BWI, MSY, and CHI.

Maybe domestic violence is a large number *after* you take out suicides and drug/crime related, but after those two classifications come out, you're only left with about 10-20% of the total.

Oh, and as to Tree's hair splitting... Want to place a bet on whether or not civilians can carry in a police station?


There's a good reason you don't see shootings in a sporting goods store, a gun show, or a tractor pull -- high likelihood that someone's got a CCW permit.

Movie theaters,shopping malls, schools, military bases... Places with those nifty "gun free" signs... they're all soft targets.

Again, you completely fail in the attempt to try and punch holes in my statement. You point to a shooting outside Dallas police where only the gunman was killed, and two robberies in gun stores where one person was critically injured and one person was killed.

Neither of those would count as a mass shooting under even the most liberal definitions... Neither involved killing three/four or more (depending on whose measure you want to follow) random people out of hatred or even for no apparent purpose other than gang or drug violence (which is sometimes included, but usually excluded).

Plus, you've yet to point to a single mass shooting that took place in a carry-friendly environment.

The closest I could come up with was the Giffords shooting at the Safeway in Tucson, except that Safeway is a gun free zone, and the shooter was partly subdued by a CCW holder who was in the store next door when the shooting started. Even that event might not qualify as a mass shooting, since his stated intent was to assassinate Giffords, thus it not being an entirely random event.

But do keep trying, though.
