Any Info On Psa?

I have to admit...I'm confused about the PSA Thing. Help educate me....where is PSA? I thought it doesn't exist anymore. Is there still a Piedmont somewhere out there? Help!!

psa and piedmont are both express wholly owns of us airways. Psa operates crj 200 and 700

US changed the name of several of its wholly owned commuters so no other airline could use the Piedmont, PSA and Allegheny names.

PSA is the RJ operator for US, Piedmont operates the Dash-8s and Allegheny was merged into Piedmont last year.

PSA and Piedmont are the two wholly owned express carriers for US Airways. There was an Allegheny up until last year, but they were a DH8 carrier like Piedmont and they both merged.
US Airways named up the wholly owned epress airlines after the 3 major airlines that made up US Air/US Airways. Piedmont is based in Sailsbury,MD and PSA is based out of Dayton.

So let me get this right....PSA and Piedmont still exist as a "company", however they don't fly their name on the side of an aircraft? Passengers have no idea that they are on a PSA flight, they just know it's a US Airways Express flight? Is this like mesa airlines and America West Express..except that Mesa is it's own company? I hope I dont' sound too stupid about this.

By DOT regulations every passenger has to be told it is a PSA flight operating as US Airways Express.

PSA is a commuter airline owned by US Airways Group and on the side of the plane it says opertated by PSA.

You're right. PSA and Piedmont are owned by US Airways Group and operate as an express feeder to mainline, similar to MESA operating as an express feeder to America West. The airplane says US Airways Express on the side and then there is a placard near the door that says operated by PSA or Piedmont.

There is a misconception that they are the original airlines and thier certificates kept alive, which is untrue. They were simply given the names so they could not be used. They are not the same company as thier predecessors. Each has it's own long lineage and history as a commuter with either Allegheny/USAir or Piedmont. PSA was previously Jetstream, and Piedmont was previously Henson. Allegheny I think was Suburban, or Pennsylvania? I'm not sure.

By the way, the current PSA does not stand for Pacific Southwest Airlines as the real one did, it is simply PSA Airlines- the initials don't stand for anything (officially).

No solid information on the wholly-owneds at at all really... rumour is the HP people would like to simplify the complex US Express system, instead of having 10 "regional airlines." There are also rumours of either Piedmont and PSA being merged or sold to Air Wisconsin.

Having a wholly-owned, particularly more than one, doesn't seem to be the "in" thing anymore now that the industry is obsessed with outsourcing, with US leading the pack.

I'll take a stab at this, if you don't mind.

Dress it up, put some lipstick on it, look to sell it to the public and at the same time make some $$$ for US Airways 🙂

Continental did this with their express division, trading as XJT.

Not sure aobut PSA, haven't heard anything,

But Jeff McClelland met with PDT for a q/a on the 15th. He stated PDT is definately in the long term plans for US. Did not know of any plans to merge PDT/PSA...better to keep operations seperate.
The wholly owned vs. the affiliates is not well defined yet. However, we do know, simpler is better. Mesa is on its way out for US Airways flying and AWA is in. MESA has exclusive rights to operations in Phoenix. Trans States is out. Goal of the CO is to get feed from the most efficient and effective source. In the big picture, 6-7 express carriers sounds like a lot.
There are 6 D-8 in Phoenix that feed. There is an agreement to option in 2007. There are not a lot of small low-density cities to feed PHX to there isn’t a lot of use for them. America West has an agreement with Mesa that if there is express feed into PHX, it will be done exclusively with Mesa.
First Dash is scheduled to be sent to the paint shop in January. Seven days off line.
The feed of the Express operation is critical and enables the big hub operation. The Dash 8 operation provides a solid contribution to the mainline operation.

if either PSA and/or Piedmont are sold, what will be of the cities that are PSA and/or Piedmont?

IF PSA/Piedmont are sold, that should not effect where they fly, as US Airways would most likely be the majority share holder, just so they can "control" it 😉.

Hope that answers your question?!
